Factors of trust in machinery sharing arrangements

100%
The paper examines the drivers of trust in the machinery sharing cooperation arrangements of Hungarian fieldcrops farms. Our research has focused on the role of two factors on the basis of the widely referred trust model: faith in loyalty and capability. The empirical results clearly confirm the hypothesis of the theoretical model, namely, which partners will trust each other if their faith is high both in loyalty and in competence. Our research has also pointed out that the level of trust between partners is determined differently by the two examined factors: it is statistically proved that the impact of faith in loyalty is higher.
Smallholder farmers in the region of Sub-Saharan Africa have begun to participate in global supply chains through applying contract farming (CF). The main aims of this paper are: to present a typology of CF and to describe the contract farming in Sub-Saharan African countries. This article has synthesised the fi ndings from contract farming agreements in Sub-Saharan African countries to form a conceptual framework of the determinants and dynamics of farmers’ participation in CF agreements. This article can be treated as an introduction to a complex comparative study of the Sub-Saharan African CF schemes and may spur further integrative analysis of the transformation in agriculture in developing countries.
Activity of α-amylase in somatic muscles in different parts of the female body of Ascaris suum was examined. Highest activity was indicated for the head (31.38 u/mg) and the tail (22.98 u/mg). No statistically significant differences of enzyme activity were found between 1-1.5 cm segments into which the remaining part of worm’s body wall was divided. Total α-amylase activity in isolated muscles from the body wall situated posteriorly to the nematode’s vulva was higher than in the anterior part (p<0.05). Higher enzyme activity was also noted in dorsal muscles than in ventral.
The present paper analyses the issues of asset supply in Hungarian agricultural enterprises. The results of empirical research carried out into specialized field crop farms have revealed a number of anomalies. By analyzing the indicators which describe asset supply, a substantial capacity surplus and capacity shortage existing paralelly was observed in Hungarian agriculture. Most small farms were seen to use their assets wastefully. If the costs related with machine use are modelled, a close negative correlation between farm size and machine use cost is observed. On the basis of cost structure examination and former conclusions, a clear affirmative answer can be given to the question in the title. Unfortunately, the present farming practice is that farms with capacity shortage procure the required resources in the form of renting services and not by way of other cooperation arrangement solutions.
The developed method of optimising a farmland arrangement system considers two basic directions when improving the layout of plots and farms: the aim of bringing farmlands closer to a farmstead site and the aim to improve the size and shape of plots. The basis for constructing this optimisation model comprises the division of consolidated land complexes into small elementary strips and the determination of distances between those strips and farmstead sites. The final result of the entire optimisation procedure is a complete digital map of a new farmland arrangement system. With this map, it is possible to compile all the documents necessary to create a cadastre. The time- and labour consuming processes of preparing data, constructing the model and solving it have been automated through the application of relevant software programs, thus, the method developed can be used in practice. The optimisation principles of farmland arrangement system were exemplified in the case of the village of Filipowice located near the city of Cracow. The optimisation performed resulted in, among other things, enlarging the mean plot area by four times and in bringing it 30% closer to a farmstead site.
