A rapid decrease in floristic biodiversity of agrocenoses has been observed in Europe for a half of century. A dynamic intensification of processes of crop production is considered one of the major reasons for shrinking of occurrence acreage and population number, or even extinction of numerous species with narrow ecological niche and high sensitivity to herbicides. These unfavourable transformations contribute to the gene pool restriction and necessity of species conservation. A representative of that group of plants is Illecebrum verticillatum (Caryophyllaceae) – a rare species endangered due to extinction in many European countries. Results of a study on decline of communities with Illecebrum verticillatum at the most northeastward sites in the Kałuszyn Upland (Podlasie Lowland, Eastern Poland) are presented. Observations were made on permanent plots for three periods (I – the years 1994–1997, period II – the years 2002–2004 and period III –the years 2008–2010) over the last 17 years. The material studied consisted of 136 phytosociological releves made by Braun-Blanquet method. Changes in phytoceoses with Illecebrum verticillatum were analysed and the habitat factors responsible for regression of these phytocenoses were identified. The degree of endangering of Illecebrum verticillatum in the area studied was evaluated on the basis of the frequency of occurrence, population abundance and genetic variation at the level of storage proteins in seeds by the modified SDS-PAGE method. Comparison of phytocenoses from different periods revealed a number of qualitative and quantitative differences. The number of sites of occurrence as well as population abundance of Illecebrum verticillatum have drastically decreased. Changes in the contribution of indicatory species (according to Ellenberg) were noted. In periods II and III a decrease in the contribution of hygrophilous and acidophilous species and an increase in that of nitrophilous species was observed. Significant changes in the structure of communities were confirmed by the calculated similarity indices (the most pronounced differences were observed between periods I and III). The phytocenoses were transformed towards degraded floristic composition, manifested by a decrease in the number of species in a plot, decrease in species diversity and increase in the index of domination. A significant increase in pH and nitrogen content at the habitats studied was noted. The phytocenoses reveal a replacement of nitrophilous for the eurytopic species. The factors having the strongest restricting effect on the occurrence of communities with Illecebrum verticillatum in the areas studied include: changes in the structure of agricultural use of land, increase in the contribution of maize in the structure of crops and intensification of production. At present 6 sites with Illecebrum verticillatum remain in the study area about 260 km2 (Kałuszyn Upland, Central-eastern Poland). Electrophoretic analysis of storage proteins in seeds of this speciesfrom these sites has shown high genetic similarity of these populations, irrespective of the distances between them (0–19% diversity among six the remaining populations). The diminished genetic pool of Illecebrum verticillatum population in this area indicates a need for the protection of this species.

Настоящая статья разработана на основании результатов исследований проводимых в разных исследовательских центрах страны, публикованных и непубликованных, но представленных на научных совещаниях. Представленные в ней данные касаются образования урожаев хлебных злаков, пропашных культур, бобовых крупнозернистых и небобовых кормовых культур, возделываемых на песчаных почвах. Приведенные данные показывают, что величина урожаев зависит с существенной степени от гранулометрического состава почвы и ее сельскохозяйственного комплекса. На основании представленных результатов исследований можно констатировать, что агротехнические мероприятия позволяют не только повышать урожаи типичных для данной агротехники культур, но и возделывать культуры с высшими требованиями к почвенным условиям, такие как напр. ячмень, пшеница, свекла, горох, конские бобы. В статье представлен также видовой состав сорняков и их численность на этих почвах.
The paper tries to determine the environmental amplitude as well as the optimal conditions for the vegetation of Papaver rhoeas in the agrocoenoses of the Roztocze National Park’s buffer zone, as compared to other Polish regions. The analysis is based on certain habitat and anthropogenic factors. Based on the author’s own research and the data quoted in the literature, it has been found that Papaver rhoeas occurs in the associations and communities of the Caucalidion and Aperion alliances accompanying cereal and rape crops as well as in the Polygono- Chenopodion and Panico-Setarion alliances accompanying root crops. Papaver rhoeas demonstrates a large environmental scale, as its presence has been noted in low- and highlands, in foothills, in river valleys as well as on slopes. Moreover, it teams up with various types of soils (of a wide range of acidity, moisture as well as trophic and thermal conditions) and complexes. Papaver rhoeas occurs most often and in the largest numbers in winter crops in the Lathyro-Melandrietum and Caucalidio-Scandicetum association which belongs to the Caucalidion alliance and in the Consolido-Brometum, Vicietum tetraspermae papaveretosum and V. t. consolidetosum association from the Aperion alliance. As far as root crops are considered, Papaver rhoeas shows up in the Lamio-Veronicetum politae association from the Polygono- Chenopodion alliance. It prefers chalky and Jurassic rendzinas containing CaCO3 and other fertile loam and loess soils which belong to wheat complexes, with their pH ranging from slightly acid to alkaline (Eutric Vertisols, chernozem, brown soil, alluvial soil) and which are moderately moist, warm, medium-rich in nitrogen and with good soil biological activity. In the foothill areas, it dominates on alluvial soils in the river valleys; rarely has it been spotted on the slopes. Papaver rhoeas rarely occurs on the lightest sandy soils of the weak and very weak rye complexes and weak cereal-fodder complexes. The distribution of Papaver rhoeas reflects the soil conditions in a given area.
The difference between biotic potential of a species and its actual abundance defines the environmental resistance or the effect of all factors that limit the biotic potential. The paper reviews practical exploration of major limitation factors in suppression of the exponential growth of a pest population under „unlimited” carrying capacity (food availability) of cultivated crop in agrocenosis. The following methods are presented: (a) using detrimental alternated food quality of resistant crop cultivars affecting pest population growth and the value of moderate level of resistance in the integrated pest management (IPM); (b) saving natural enemies by using selectively insecticides to upgrade the conservation biological control agents and (c) biodiversity and habitat management to provide suitable environment for natural enemies. The existing gaps in the scientist’s collected experimental data and knowledge and farmer’s practices on the pesticide selectivity for natural enemies still lead to some pest outbreaks in Poland. The evolution in research priorities and recommendations on the role of natural enemies in various agrocenoses by the IOBC working group on “Landscape management for functional biodiversity” indicated the shift from an individual field scale to the landscape scale and the needs for multidiscipline approach.
During the two years of observations (2008–2009) conducted on the field groves in Bartążek near Olsztyn (UTM 65) a total number of 3 478 spiders belonging to 12 families, 49 genera and 89 species were trapped by using a sweep-net. The most numerous families were Tetragnathidae and Linyphidae, but the riechest in species were Linyphidae (30 species), Araneidae (14 species), Tetragnathidae and Thomisidae (each 9 species). The dominant species was Metellina segmentata and subdominants were Enoplognatha ovata, Pachygnatha listeri, Tetragnatha montana (2008–2009) and Linyphia triangularis in 2009. Also very rare species was found – Philodromus albidus. The observations showed that field groves were very rich source of species diversity of foliage-dwelling spiders, as potential predators of pests in agrocenosis.
In presented study the efficiency of bacteria preparations and growth regulators applied to one variety and mixed crops (barley + pea) depended on the level of nitrogen nutrition. Applying of Rhizobacterin on one variety barley crop against the background of 60 kg N·ha⁻¹ resulted in a maximum yield, while the maximum yield of pea was obtained after applying of Sapronit at dose of 30 kg N·ha⁻¹. At mixed crops the highest yield of plants was achieved when two components of the mixture (Saprofit + Rhizobacterin) were applied together with 30 kg N·ha⁻¹. Epin efficiency on one variety crop was the highest without N application whereas the second growth regulator Homobrassinolid was most effective at the background of 60 kg N·ha⁻¹. On the objects without nitrogen fertlization maximum increase of barley yield in mixed crop was noted after inoculation of pea seeds with Epin preparation. Whereas Homobrassinolid caused the highest increase of barley yield in variant without pea seed inoculation.
