The term "ecological warfare" was first used in reference of American Army actions during the Vietnam War. Herbicides were used there which not only destroyed vegetation but also caused genetic changes in animals and humans. In war in Kuwait, Saddam Hussains's army intentionally inflicted harm on the environment. The ecological implications of this short war have been disastrous: air, soil and water are contaminated and the ecological disaster spreads over, affecting the countries which had not been involved in the conflict.

The effect of heavy river flood during 1987/88 on fish population was studied in Khor al-Zubair, northwestern Arabian Gulf. The fish structure in the Khor changed dramatically due to the intrusion of freshwater species. Six freshwater species (Heteropneustus fossilus, Liza abu, Alburnus capito, Barbus luteus, Parasilurus triostegus, Cyprinus carpio) comprised 38.8% during the heavy flood at the northern part of the Khor (Junction station), while only the first five species contributed 17.8% the total number at the middle of the Khor (Port station).

Prey selection based on predator/prey weight ratios for common fishes of Northwest Arabian Gulf

As part of a comprehensive study concerning the trophic interrelationship of fish assemblage in the Northwest Arabian Gulf the characteristic ratios of predator-prey weights for 12 common species were calculated. This technique was used to assess the prey size selection by predator fish. Three preference modes of prey size were obtained. The first represents specialised predation on large prey, the second includes species showing less specialisation to select large prey. The third has exhibited specialisation for selection of small prey.

Author presented two phenomena looking quite absurd outwardly. American talib case is only introduction to the interesting phenomenon in beverage world like launch of few islam colas during last few years in the Middle East and in few European Union countries. These colas have been very strongly addressed to islam believers. Basing on anti-American resentments among majority of islam believers also those living in Europe and basing on 100 years of experience in cola marketing, the producers of Mecca Cola and Qibla Cola offer them something what is through and through American, i.e. their own colas. It is quite difficult to say if the first sales successes may be something long lasting phenomenon.

Rolnictwo w arabskich monarchiach Zatoki Perskiej: główne problemy i tendencje

W artykule zaprezentowane zostały kluczowe problemy i tendencje, a także ograniczenia i szanse występujące w rolnictwie w arabskich monarchiach Zatoki Perskiej: Arabii Saudyjskiej, Bahrajnie, Katarze, Kuwejcie, Omanie oraz Zjednoczonych Emiratach Arabskich. W pracy poddano analizie wpływ warunków klimatycznych i geograficznych na możliwości rozwoju rolnictwa we wskazanych państwach, jak również zbadano znaczenie niedoboru wody i ziemi uprawnej jako czynników ograniczających. Omówione zostały też rozwiązania mające na celu minimalizację negatywnych efektów tychże czynników. Następnie zarysowana została struktura użytków rolnych oraz struktura produkcji rolnej w monarchiach Zatoki. Z uwagi na to, że rolnictwo ma nie tylko wymiar produkcyjny i znaczenie ekonomiczne, lecz także aspekty społeczne i polityczne – istotne z perspektywy życia codziennego oraz polityki państwa, także one zostały rozpatrzone w artykule. Mając na względzie problemy związane z bezpieczeństwem żywnościowym, z jakimi muszą zmierzyć się monarchie Półwyspu Arabskiego, w analizie uwzględniono ponadto zależności występujące pomiędzy produkcją rolną a tą dziedziną bezpieczeństwa. Powyższe zagadnienia mają kluczowe znaczenie z punktu widzenia rolnictwa w przywołanych państwach.
