Legal regulations, economic factors and the need to protect forests against excessive exploitation encourage the entrepreneurs who use wood to look for its alternative sources. Among them there are almost fully utilized wooden by-products and wood waste wood, which constitute one of the elements of municipal waste. In the article the sources of post-consumer waste wood have been determined. Detailed analysis embraced one of them, namely – municipal waste generated within the territory of Wielkopolska Voivodeship. Their morphological composition has been given and the share of individual fractions in the total volume of municipal waste has been pointed out. The amount of waste wood possible to recover by 2023 was determined as the sum of those fractions of municipal waste, which contain wooden elements or wood-based elements: fraction wood and fraction bulky waste. Wooden packaging has been also included.
In 2010 in the Oborniki and Ryczywół communes a total of 110 trees-natural monuments, seven tree clusters and one avenue were inventoried, while no monuments of inanimate nature were reported in the area of the study. The survey covered jointly 167 trees of 26 species. The largest number of trees protected as natural monuments were sessile oaks Quercus petraea (28 trees) and English oaks Quercus robur (20). Most trees were of a good health condition. A total of 69 trees had healthy stems and 74 trees had healthy crowns. Among the inventoried trees 11 were dead.
The inventory carried out in the 19th century historic park in Swadzim near Poznań recorded the total of 1886 trees, bushes and climbers deriving from 64 species. At the present time, the park is neglected and a plan for its revalorization is badly needed. Tree composition is dominated by Quercus robur, Robinia pseudoacacia, Acer pseudoplatanus, Carpinus betulus, Q. rubra and Fagus sylvatica, while that of bushes – by Sambucus nigra. The height of trees ranges from 16 to 20 m and their circumferences – from 45 to 114 cm; the health condition of the majority of trees is good or even very good. Single specimens of rare and threatened species were found to occur. The total of 101 splendid trees from 26 taxons were inventoried among which A. pseudoplatanus, A. platanoides, Aesculus hippocastanum, R. pseudoacacia and C. betulus dominated. In comparison with the Rataj’s inventory from 1976, transformations are apparent in the dendroflora of the park towards its naturalisation. The tree stand requires cutting and tending intervention.
Subject and purpose of work: This paper presents the development of human capital on the labour market of the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship in 2004-2017. Materials and methods: The study uses methods of literature review and comparative analysis based on data provided by Statistics Poland. Results: The results of the analysis show that constant development of human capital is taking place in the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship, and its level measured by the number of students and graduates of universities, as well as the number of registered patents is comparable to the average in Poland. The high quality of human capital contributed to achieving above-average economic results and household incomes. Conclusions: Development of human capital and raising professional qualifications at post-graduate studies was particularly important in the period of negative impact on the Polish economy of the financial crises of 2007-2009 and 2010-2012. A combination of higher education and innovative abilities, as well as involvement in R&D contributed to the increased competitiveness of the voivodeship's economy.
The paper presents results of a survey of natural monuments in the Śrem county, Poland. The survey inventoried eight avenues, 30 tree clusters, six erratics, two localities of a protected plant species, and 85 trees-natural monuments. Among all trees the most numerous group comprised small-leaved limes (447 trees – 36.6%), horse chestnuts (372 Aesculus hippocastanum – 30.4%) as well as Acer platanoides and Quercus robur (with 99 trees each – 8.1%). Among single trees classified as natural monuments the greatest numbers belong to Quercus robur (34 trees – 40.0%) as well as Aesculus hippocastanum and Tilia cordata (with 8 trees each – 9.4%). In the area of the survey there are 30 clusters of trees registered as natural monument. These clusters comprise 99 trees belonging to eight species. Among them English oaks vastly predominate – 65 trees (65.7%). Eight avenues are composed of 1038 trees belonging to seven species. The avenue with the highest number of trees is situated in Przylepki (the Brodnica comune), extending for 1.5 km and composed of 265 Tilia cordata specimens. Former manor and palace parks in the Śrem county account for 33% trees-natural monuments and 63% tree clusters. Considerable differences were recorded in the numbers of natural monuments registered in individual decades – in the 1950’s nine natural monuments were established (6.9% total number of natural monuments), in the 1960’s – one (0.8%), the 1970’s – one (0.8%), the 1980’s – 41 (31.3%), the 1990’s – 73 (55.7%), while in the first decade of the 21st century six natural monuments were registered (4.6%).
In all, 105 impressive lime trees were inventoried in the Lipka commune of which Tilia cordata Mill. (95 trees) turned out to be the most numerous. The remaining taxa T. ×europaea L., T. platyphyllos Scop. and T. tomentosa Moench had only a very small share. Majority of valuable limes (67) were found to grow along district, local and dirt roads forming avenues. Lime trees in good and very good health condition predominated. From among the impressive lime trees, there were three current monumental trees as well as 55 trees with monument circumferences. Thanks to the elaboration of a comprehensive dendrological documentation, it will be possible to protect impressive lime trees which may become one of important touristic attractions of the Lipka commune.
The aim of this study was to identify the currently functioning institutional support mechanisms for the development of the bio-economy in the Wielkopolska Region. In the initial stage of the study, conducted in late 2013 and 2014, secondary materials were used which had been published by the Central Statistical Office, reports by Association for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centres, Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the information contained on the websites of the institutions. The study included selected administrative-political and economic institutions of Wielkopolska. It was determined whether and to what extent these mechanisms operate in support of activities aimed at bio-economy development. It was found that the biggest, targeted support in this area is offered by Nickel Technology Park, Poznan Science and Technology Park, Centre of Excellence “Food Biotechnology” and the Foundation for Academic Entrepreneurship. In the future, extensive support for bio-economy can be expected from Wielkopolska Centre for Advanced Technology which is in the start-up phase. In other institutions, such support is provided equally to other areas of business and scientific research or it is of no particular interest to the institution. The study does not exhaust the catalogue of the bio-economy support institutions in the region of Wielkopolska. At their present stage a slight targeting of support mechanisms was noted for the activities in the field of bio-economy. Continuation and specification of research is planned.

Subject and purpose of work: The purpose of this article is to show the results of the analysis of the involvement of micro-, small and medium-sized agribusiness enterprises operating in rural areas with reference to the issues of social responsibility in protection of natural environment. Materials and methods: Research on entrepreneurs’ views on CSR activities was conducted at the turn of 2016 and 2017 and included 212 micro (0-9 persons), small (10-49 employees) and medium (50-249 employees) agribusiness enterprises conducting business activity in the rural areas of the Wielkopolska province. Results: The conducted research has confirmed the common view that micro enterprises show little interest in implementing basic standards of social responsibility in the “environment” area. The situation is slightly better for small and medium enterprises. Conclusions: Pro-environmental activities, especially in the agribusiness sector, should be promoted, highlighting the range of benefits that can be achieved through these activities, such as improving relationships with the local community, increasing employees’ motivation, and increasing customers’ loyalty.
