The genus Lyphia Mulsant & Rey, 1859 (Tenebrionidae: Triboliini Gistel, 1848) with the type species Lyphia ficicola Mulsant & Rey, 1859 (junior synonym of Bius tetraphylla Fairmaire, 1856) is widespread in the Palaearctic, Oriental and Papuan-Pacific Regions, as well as in Africa. The present study treats all species known from the Oriental Region including the Himalayas and China, Taiwan, and from all Sunda Islands including Lombok and Sulawesi. Additional available species from Papuan and Pacific Regions are also listed and figured for comparison. An identification key for the Oriental species is compiled. New species: Lyphia weigeli sp. nov. (Ternate Island, Moluccas). New synonyms: Lyphia indicola Gebien, 1922 (= Lyphia subopaca Blair, 1930 syn. nov.) and Lyphia instriata Pic, 1924 (= Lyphia elongata Pic, 1924 syn. nov., Lyphia longiceps Pic, 1924 syn. nov., Lyphia orientalis Blair, 1930 syn. nov.). Lectotypes are designated for Lyphia elongata Pic, 1924, Lyphia instriata Pic, 1924, Lyphia laeviceps Gebien, 1922, Lyphia longiceps Pic, 1924, Lyphia punctaticeps Pic, 1924, and Lyphia substriata Pic, 1924.
Pentaphyllus reibnitzi sp. nov. from Cyprus is described, representing the fourth species of Pentaphyllus from the western Palaearctic Region. All four species from this area are figured, a key for their identification and selected faunistic data are given. Two species have a wider distribution in the western Palaearctic Region, and two are restricted to limited areas in Azerbaijan or Cyprus, respectively. The type specimens of the new species were found in polypores, collected from a dead tree of Ficus carica in an extensively cultivated garden near seashore. Lectotype of Pentaphyllus nitidulus Reitter, 1884 is designated.
Cylindrinotus tchorokhicus sp. nov. and Probations (Pelorinus) banaszkiewiczae sp. nov. are described from northeastern Turkey (Artvin Province). The first species is similar to C. constrictus (Seidlitz, 1896), but differs from it by flattened lateral sides of pronotum, strongly thickened outer margins and base of pronotum, more shining body and structure of aedeagus. The new species of Probations Vauloger, 1900 is close to P. corrugatus (Seidlitz, 1896), but differs from it by the structure and punctation of pronotum and propleura, structure of elytra and genitalia of male, and pubescence on anal sternite.
Donaciolagria malgorzatae sp. nov. from Laos and Thailand is described. New country and new Chinese province records of formerly described species of Donaciolagria Pic, 1914 are given.
A peculiar Andocamaria species from NE India, A. malgorzatae sp. nov. (Tenebrionidae: Stenochiinae: Cnodalonini) is described.
A new species of the genus Isomira Mulsant, 1856, I. aliquoi sp. nov., is described from the island of Cyprus. It is compared to all its relatives of the Eastern Mediterranean Basin.
A new species of tigonopoid Platynotina (Atrocrates coconatae sp. nov.) is described, diagnosed and illustrated. An update for the key of the genus Atrocrates is proposed.
A new species Nalassus bozdagus sp. nov. is described from the Aegean Region of Turkey (Bozdag ridge). The new species differs from all known Nalassus in the following characters: the hair spot on first and second abdominal sternites of male is absent, temple grooves are absent, exosceleton very strongly sclerotized. New records of Nalassus Mulsant, 1854 from Turkey are provided. Two species new for the fauna of Turkey: Nalassus (Helopondrus) gloriosus (Faldermann, 1837) and N. (Helopocerodes) faldermanni (Faldermann, 1837).
A new species of the genus Opatrum Fabricius, 1775, O. (Opatrum) malgorzatae sp. nov., is described from Corsica. It is compared to its Sardinian endemic relative O. (Opatrum) dahli Küster, 1849. Photographs of habitus and aedeagus of both species are presented.
Four new species of the genus Tetragonomenes are described from Sulawesi under the names Tetragonomenes banaszkiewiczae sp. nov., T. cyanopterus sp. nov., T. robusticeps sp. nov., and T. cupreomicans sp. nov.
The status of 23 species-group names used by Charles De Geer, for beetles classified in Pyrochroa Geoffroy, 1762, and Tenebrio Linnaeus, 1758, is assessed. Thirteen of these species-group names are unavailable (ten were published in synonymy, three are subsequent usages of available names): Pyrochroa rubra De Geer, 1775 = Pyrochroa coccinea (Linnaeus, 1760); Pyrochroa bimaculata De Geer, 1775 = Apalus bimaculatus (Linnaeus, 1760); Tenebrio acuminatus De Geer, 1775 = Blaps mortisaga (Linnaeus, 1758); Tenebrio variolosus De Geer, 1775 = Upis ceramboides (Linnaeus, 1758); Tenebrio molitor De Geer, 1775 = Tenebio molitor Linnaeus, 1758; Tenebrio rugosus De Geer, 1775 = Opatrum sabulosum (Linnaeus, 1760); Tenebrio villosus De Geer, 1775 = Lagria hirta (Linnaeus, 1758); Tenebrio hirticornis De Geer, 1775 = Orthocerus clavicornis (Linnaeus, 1758); Tenebrio boleti De Geer, 1775 = Diaperis boleti (Linnaeus, 1758); Tenebrio gibbus De Geer, 1775 = Psammodes gibbus (Linnaeus, 1761); Tenebrio maurus De Geer, 1775 = Tenebrioides mauritaniens (Linnaeus, 1758); Tenebrio aeneus De Geer, 1775 = Tenebrio chalybeus Linnaeus, 1767, a misidentification of Xylopinus saperdiodes (Olivier, 1775); and Tenebrio surinamensis De Geer, 1775 = Oryzaephilius surinamensis (Linnaeus, 1758). The holotype of Pyrochroa tomentosa De Geer, 1775, and specimens described under the name Tenebrio maurus, De Geer, 1775, from the De Geer Collection were rediscovered within the Paykull Collection, Swedish Natural History Museum. Pyrochroa nigra De Geer, 1775, is a junior synonym of Prionyckus ater (Fabricius, 1775); a recently reported synonymy with Schizotus pectinicornis (Linnaeus, 1758), is an error. The holotypes of Pyrochroa nitida De Geer, 1775, and Tenebrio lardarius De Geer, 1775, are considered lost. Tenebrio gibbus De Geer, 1778, a junior primary homonym of Tenebrio gibbus Linnaeus, 1760, has the replacement name Tenebrio striatus Retzius, 1783, and is a synonym of Zophosis reticularis Say, 1824, syn. nov., making the valid combination of this North American species Discodemus striatus (Retzius, 1783), comb. nov.
Crypsis malgosiae sp. nov. from China (Sichuan) is described. New records of known species are presented, significantly expanding the known distribution of the genus (now 20 species). For most species photographs and drawings of the aedeagi are added for the first time to facilitate subsequent identifications.
New taxa proposed are the subtribe Asphalina (Heleini), the genera Doyenia (Belopini), Wattiana (Cnemeplatiini), Palembomimus (Diaperini-Adelinina) and Triplehornia (Diaperinae tribe unknown), and the species Doyenia crematogastri, Wattiana greensladei, Triplehornia metallica, Tagalinus australis (Penetini) and Tyrtaeus bicoloratus (Gnathidiini). New synonymy is Micropedinus Lewis, 1894 = Notoprataeus Carter, 1924 (Lupropini). New generic records for Australia are Tagalinus Kaszab, 1977 (Penetini), Adelina Dejean, 1835 (Diaperini), Sciophagus Sharp, 1885 (Diaperini) and Úlomina Baudi di Selve, 1876 (Palorini). The above taxa are discussed and some keys for their determination are presented.
A new species belonging to the genus Physophrynus Fairm. is described from Tanganyika Territory and compared with related species.
