New faunistic data concerning 23 species of the beetle family Scydmaenidae(Coleoptera) are presented, based on nearly 500 specimens collected in the Wielkopolska-Kujawy Lowlands. Scydmoraphes helvolus (SCHAUM), Scydmoraphes minutus (CHAUDOIR), Stenichnus (Cyrtoscydmus) bicolor (DENNY) and Scydmaenus (Cholerus) perrisii (REITTER) are recorded for the first time in the Lowlands, and new records for some rare species (including myrmecophilous beetles) are also provided. Detailed collecting data are given with remarks on scydmaenid biology and ecology.
New records of 18 species of the family Hydraenidae from Poland are reported. The occurrence of two species: Hydraena schuleri GANGL. and Ochthebius dilatatus STEPH. is confirmed in Poland. New localities of 11 rare species are presented. H. britteni JOY, H. melas DALLA TORRE, and H. truncata REY are newly reported from the Western Sudety Mts., H. excisa KIESENW. is newly reported from the Wielkopolska-Kujawy Lowland, Limnebius aluta BEDEL is new for the Pomeranian Lakeland, L. truncatellus (THUNBERG) is new for the Tatra Mts., Hydraena schuleri GANGLBAUER is new for the Bieszczady Mts. and O. dilatatus STEPHENS is new for the Baltic Coast region. A critical list of species recorded from Poland is presented and discussed.
The first record of O. colveranus Ferro, 1979 from Poland is given. The beetle was found in Bereżki near Ustrzyki Górne. New data on the occurrence of 4 other Ochthebius species are presented.
Paper presents new data about the occurrence of 7 species of the superfamily Hydrophiloidea and the family Hydraenidae, rare in Poland. Berosus (Berosus) signaticollis (CHARP.) is reported for the first time from the Western Sudetes.
Genetic variability of three sympatric crucian carp (Carassius carassius) populations from NW Poland was studied within a research project aimed at assessing the utility of those populations for stocking in inland waters. DNA samples were collected from 65 individuals. Restriction analysis was performed using 4 enzymes (HaeIII, HinfI, FspBI, TasI) of known restriction sites. The restriction profiles obtained were classi fied as belonging to a single haplotype (H-1). Selected DNA products were sequenced; the subsequent comparison made it possible to detect the presence of substitutions in the genome fragment analysed.
A new staphylinoid beetle, Capnosolius ariasae gen. et sp. nov. is described from the Valdivian region of Chile. Members of this species display morphological affinities with both Leiodidae and Agyrtidae, including a weakly explanate pronotum, leiodid-like antennal club, and loss of aedeagal parameres. This new species is placed within its own genus on the basis of morphological uniqueness; the genus is tentatively placed within Camiarinae: Neopelatopini, with a discussion of support from morphological and DNA evidence. A key to described genera and a species checklist are provided for world Neopelatopini.
New localities of 22 species of Leiodidae in the Kampinos National Park are presented, among them 13 species new for the studied area. Six species have been recorded from the Mazovian Lowland for the first time: Anemadus strigosus, Agathidium confusum, Amphicyllis globus, Amphicyllis globiformis, Anisotoma orbicularis and Colenis immunda.
