Background. The aim of this study was isolation and examination of Aspiculuris tetraptera somatic proteins and somatic antigens role in eliciting of immune response in laboratory mice. Material and methods. In our investigation 40 laboratory mice (BALB/c strain) were used. To extract the somatic proteins Tris-HCl buffer with NaCl and Triton X-100 was used. The analysis of somatic antigens was undertaken by Western blotting. Results. The study showed the presence of 14 protein bands ranging from ~ 82 to 28 kDa. Glicoproteins detection revealed 13 bands in range between ~ 70 to 30 kDa. There was no reaction observed with immunoglobulins IgA. Comparision of these results with earlier studies concerning S. obvelata somatic antigens show that there are proteins and glicoproteins with the same molecular weights for both species. It is also observed that S. obvelata somatic extract is more diversed and have higher antigenicity than A. tetraptera. Hence, we may suppose this fact could favour easier colonization of the host by A. tetraptera.
Lemuricola (Madoxyuris) bauchoti Chabaud, Brygoo et Petter, 1965 is redescribed from material collected from the ring-tailed lemur, Lemur catta, from the Beza Mahafaly Special Reserve in Madagascar using the scanning electron microscope. This is a new host record and the first oxyurid reported from the ring-tailed lemur. Previously, records of each species of the subgenus Madoxyuris have been restricted to a single host species, but the close relationship between these nematodes and their Strepsirrhini hosts will only be proven when additional records fill in the gaps in their distribution.
Lemuricola (Madoxyuris) vauceli Chabaud, Brygoo et Petter, 1965 is redescribed on the basis of a re-examination of type and voucher specimens. Using both light and SEM microscopy, structures such as the cephalic papillae, details of the lateral alae, area rugosa and tail cuticular ornamentation, are described or redescribed with more precision. The detailed measurements of several male and female specimens are given in a table. In the original description, using light microscopy only, the authors had described 3 pairs of pedunculated papillae in the male of L. vauceli. The present study establishes the precise number, shape and disposition of the end of the male tail to include only two pairs of pedunculated papillae, 2 pairs of sessile papillae, and 1 pair of phasmids. As the same pattern was observed in all descriptions and recent redescriptions of species classified in the Enterobiinae, the present work confirms that the number and disposition of the caudal papillae observed in the subfamily is constant.
Five species of nematode were collected from the digestive tracts of 10 Coccymys ruemmleri from Papua New Guinea. Montistrongylus giluwensis sp. nov. can be distinguished from its congener by its size, in having more ridges in the synlophe, longer spicules and the form of the cuticle on the female posterior end. Syphacia (S.) coccymyos can be distinguished from all other species in the subgenus by having a laterally extended dorso-ventrally constricted oval cephalic plate and both cervical and lateral alae, together with the combination spicule length and egg size. The helminth assemblage had similar species richness to that of Chiruromys vates with Odilia mackerrasae the only species in common.
