In 2004-2006 ca euro 2-3 billion from EU resources may be used for environmental projects approved of by the European Commission. Accessing these resources requires preparation of about 150 applications: of this number, 100 applications likely to be approved by the EU will be selected. The European Union focuses on the complexity of the problem and each proposed solution should fall within a wider framework, the activities should be prioritized and consistent. The utilization of EU financing is possible after the project is completed. The share of the National Fund supplementing the Polish contribution may reach up to 40%. Projects scheduled for 2004 which can be refunded by the EU must be closed by July 2003.
The activities of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management cover the whole system of environmental investments. The Fund supports construction of wastewater treatment plants, modernisation of technological lines in industry and power sector and projects in industrial waste management. The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management co-operates not only in environmental clean-up projects, but it is also involved in eliminating the causes. Apart from the criterion of environmental performance, the Fund will support actions based on the best available technologies which prefer development of the Polish industry in line with both the principle of sustainable development and unemployment reduction scheme.
