The genus Malaxa Melichar, 1914 (Hemiptera: Fulgoroidea: Delphacidae: Tropidocephalini) feeding exclusively on bamboo (Bambusoideae), containing 4 species: M. delicata Ding et Yang, 1986 (Guizhou: Guiyang; Yunnan: Mongban; Zhejing: Hangzhou; Fujian: Huangkeng), M. hunanensis Chen sp. nov. (Hunan: Zhangjiajie), M. fusca Yang et Yang, 1986 (Taiwan: Nantou) and M. semifusca Yang et Yang, 1986 (Taiwan: Nantou; Hualian; Guizhou: Daozhen) from China is here reviewed. The male of M. fusca Yang et Yang, collected from Nantou County of Taiwan, is reported and described for the first time. The main morphological characters and male genitalia of 4 species are described and illustrated. A key to species in the genus from China is provided.
Tragediana chusqueae gen. et sp. nov. is described from the Andes and Nahuelbuta mountains in the south central zone of Chile. The genus is associated with Chusquea Kunth (Poaceae: Bambusoideae), and is characterized in part by having completely paired carinae on eumetope, a feature present in only a few genera among Delphacini.
The Palaearctic genus Shadelphax Ding, 2006 (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Delphacidae: Delphacinae: Delphacini) is taxonomically reviewed to include two species: S. eforiae (Dlabola, 1961) (China: Neimenggu, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang; Mongolia; Kazakhstan; Ukraine; Middle Asia) and S. kashiensis sp. nov. (China: Xinjiang). The genus Shadelphax is redefined. The main morphological characters including the male genitalia of the two species are described or redescribed and illustrated.
The dictyopharids planthopper genus Dictyophara Germar, 1833 from China is revised and restricted in Palaearctic Region of northern China. Only four recognized Dictyophara species are: D. europaea (Linnaeus, 1767), D. koreana Matsumura, 1915, D. nekkana Matsumura, 1940 and D. pannonica (Germar, 1830), which the former two are recorded from China for the first time. One new generic and three new specific synonyms are recognized: Dictyophara Germar, 1833 = Togaphora Matsumura, 1940 syn. nov.; D. koreana Matsumura, 1915 = Centomera manchurica Kato, 1933 syn. nov. = Togaphora hokuryonis Matsumura, 1940 syn. nov.; D. nekkana Matsumura, 1940 = Dictyophara kaszabi Dlabola, 1967 syn. nov. Photographs of the adults of all known species are presented. Descriptions of the genus and its included species are provided together with structural illustrations of the male genitalia. A key and a distribution map to the four species of Dictyophara from China are provided.
Euxaldar jehucal Fennah, 1978 is redescribed. Euxaldar lenis sp. nov. is described from Southern Vietnam. Sexual dimorphism and asymmetry in male genitalia are recorded for the genus Euxaldar Fennah, 1978.
A new monotypie genus of flatid planthoppers (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Flatidae) is described from Socotra island (Yemen): Haloflata gen. nov. for H. arthrocnemi sp. nov. (type species). Habitus, male and female external and internal genital structures of the new species are illustrated and compared with similar taxa. The new species was found in association with Arthrocnemum macrostachyum (Amaranthaceae) in coastal saltmarshes in western Socotra.
Autrimpus sambiorum gen. et sp. nov. to comprise fossil from Eocene Baltic amber is described. The characters of Cixiidae planthoppers ascribed to subtribe Mnemosynina of tribe Pentastirini are discussed and new rank of the group as tribe Mnemosynini stat. nov. is proposed. The status of the extinct and extant taxa ascribed to Mnemosynini and characters of the tribe are discussed.
Two new species of the Oriental planthopper genus Varma Distant, 1906 (Hemiptera: Fulgoroidea: Tropiduchidae) are described and illustrated: V. gibbosa Wang et Liang sp. nov. (China: Xizang) and V. bimaculata Wang et Liang sp. nov. (China: Xizang), they represent the first record of the genus Varma Distant from China. A diagnosis of the genus and a key to the species of Varma are provided.
A new planthopper Ptychogroehnia reducta gen. and sp. nov. from the Eocene Baltic amber is described. The new genus represents the fossil tribe Ptychoptilini Emeljanov, 1990 (Achilidae). The characters of the tribe and its possible bionomics are discussed.
