The studies examined in vitro effect of oil garlic extract on the growth on mycelium, sporulation and sclerotia formation of some species of fungi pathogenic to plants. The garlic extract used at the concentrations of 10, 100 and 1000 ppm contained 0.01; 0.1 and 1 ppm of the biologically active compounds respectively. The percent of inhibition of the growth of 4-day-old colonies of fungi growing in the present of 10 ppm of garlic extract was from 0 to 26.5%, in the presence of 100 ppm of garlic extract it was from 0 to 48.8%, in the presence of 1000 ppm of garlic extract it ranged from 42.9 to 100%. Garlic extract most often had a fungistatic effect on the fungi studied. More rarely it had a stimulating or fungicidal effect, and in few cases no effect was observed. Fungi growing in contact with garlic extract having a strong fungistatic effect did not form any spores or sclerotia until the 8th day of the colony growth. The ability of garlic extract to inhibit the growth of fungus colonies decreased with the time which elapsed since its application.
