The objective was to identify the main factors influencing micronutrient policies in the opinion of policy actors in ten European countries. Study was carried out during Jan-Nov 2010 in European countries: the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Spain. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with representatives of stakeholders involved in the vitamin D, folate and iodine policy making process. Fifty eight key informants representing mainly scientific advisory bodies (n=24) and governmental organisations (n=19) participated in the study. The remaining interviewees represented non-governmental organisations (n=6), industry (n=4) or were independent academic or health professional experts (n=5). Data were analysed by theoretical interpretative thematic analysis. Insights from interviewees on the development of micronutrient policies were grouped using the Public Health Nutrition Policy-making model. The main factors influencing the micronutrient policies were: systematic monitoring of nutrition and health, causal relationships between consumers' diet-related behaviours and health outcomes, scientific recommendations from national bodies (Science area); scientific recommendations from international authorities and experiences of other countries, EU legislation, cultural factors (Wider context) and political environment, national capacity to deal with the problem, national legislation, economics, stakeholder engagement, relationships between stakeholders (Policy and institutions area). The spectrum and weight of the factors influencing nutritional policy depends on nutrient, country and degree of its "advanced status" within nutrition policy, political environment, culture and socio-economic conditions as well as the point of view (who is expressing the opinion).
Five profiles of chernozems from several European countries were examined in the present study. The chernozems developed from various rocks and differed in their morphology and chemical properties. Mineralogical studies were carried out on the fraction <2 ľm by an X-ray method, using a diffractometer with a proportional recorder. It was found that all European chernozems examined in this study had a similar mineral complex of the clay fraction. Its major components were montmorillonite and illite usually forming mixed structures, whereas kaolinite, quartz, vermiculite and chlorite were present in smaller amounts, and feldspars occurred as trace minerals. Basically, differences in the mineral composition of various profiles and various soil horizons lie in different quantitative relations between the minerals listed above.
In this paper an attempt is made to show the need of adjustment of co-operatives operating in rural areas and their new role in economic development. Firstly, general remarks are examined, including a notion of co-operative and a meaning of co-operative units and their share of national incomes in European countries. Secondly, using experiences European Union members as an example, selected changes in co-operative sector are considered for improving its role in the economic development.
The main aim of the study was to identify and evaluate the progress of implementation of selected assumptions on sustainability of agriculture in countries of Central-Eastern Europe in relation to environmental protection. Data from the input-output balance sheets and the European Environmental Accounts were used to realize the aim of the study. The analysis considered material flows to and from agriculture, pollution, and the production and consumption of biomass. The share of the participation of agribusiness sphere I, including mainly services, as well as the fuel, energy and chemical industries, has been increasing in the material inflows to agriculture in the countries of Central- Eastern Europe. This indicates production modernization, associated with a higher load on the environment. The highest emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants into the environment per 1,000 euro GDP were recorded in Lithuania, Romania and Latvia. The Czech Republic, Slovenia and Slovakia have the lowest values of emissions. In Latvia, there was no overall reduction in pollution emitted by agriculture in 2008–2012. Emission of these pollutants per 1,000 euro GDP and 1 ha UAA (utilized agricultural area) of agricultural land decreased in most countries in the analysis. In EU countries of Central-Eastern Europe, a reduction in direct material input and domestic consumption of biomass from agriculture per one euro of GDP is reported. These changes indicate a decrease in the intensity of use of natural resources (dematerialising economy), which is consistent with the objectives of sustainable development. In countries where agriculture is better developed, the implementation of pro-environmental goals of sustainable development takes place to a greater extent than in countries with lower levels of socio-economic development.
This research aims to describe the situation of the feed-in tariffs system in Ukraine. It attempts to examine the main distinguishing features and drawbacks in comparison with the law of European countries. To do this the Ukrainian Law and the data taken from such sites as Eurostat and Ernst & Young Global Limited Company are analysed and compared. The main drawbacks of Ukrainian feed – in tariffs system are analysed more deeply. The main of them were the next: 1) provision about local component in Ukrainian’s system of feed-in tariffs; 2) too high feed-in tariffs rates on solar energy in Ukraine in comparison with European countries; 3) insufficient attention to the issue of renewable energy produced from biomass. In the last year some improvements in these spheres have been made. But they will be valid mainly only until 2017. Now in Ukraine there are many obstacles in renewable energy sphere but the main reasons are political obstacles in the area of renewable energy. And the best opportunities for the development of renewable energy can be provided only by the competitive environment. Only in such a way Ukraine can become an energy-efficient modern state.
