This study present 9 species of colourless euglenoid flagellates found in a small peat bog in Budzyń, a village north-west of Cracow, which belongs to the Małopolska Upland (Southern Poland). This threatened peat bog is covered with rubble brought from neighbouring Cracow. Only ca 30% of its area is relatively little influenced by human activity. Many of the present species are rarely and infrequently reported from nature. Three species, including Rhabdomonas incurva Fresenius, Entosiphon obliąuum Klebs, E. ovatum Stokes, and one variety Menoidium pellucidum Perty var. gracile (Playfair) Popova have been recorded for the first time from Poland. Three species Astasia dangeardii Lemmermann var. dangeardii, Rhabdomonas costata (Korsikov) Pringsheim and Entosiphon sulcatum (Dujardin) Stein var. sulcatum Stein are new for the flora of Cracow-Częstochowa Upland. The remaining taxa: Menoidium pellucidum Perty var. pellucidum and M. tortuosum (Stokes) Senn var. tortuosum are very rarely recorded from Poland. For each species illustrations, taxonomic information and biogeographical data are given.
A total of 193 species were encountered, diatoms representing 61.2% of the taxa present. Others were Cyanophyta (30.1%), Chlorophyceae (4.1%), Euglenophyta (2.6%), and Dinophyceae (1.5%). The density and chlorophyll ɑ values for the high intertidal zone showed higher and wider variation than those for the mid and low intertidal zones. Nutrients were found to correlate significantly with epibenthic algal density but did not correlate with chlorophyll ɑ.
One new Heteronema cf. distigmoides Christen and three rare taxa of H. acus (Ehrenberg) Stein, H. spirale KLEBS and H. nebulosum (Dujardin) Klebs were reported for the Polish flora. All of them were found in the mesotrophic Lake Piaseczno and in a small village pond in Kaniwola, in 2002. Both water reservoirs are situated on the Łęczna-Włodawa Lakeland (Eastern Poland). The above mentioned species are new to the flora of the Łęczna-Włodawa Lakeland, probably because of insufficient research, which was carried out on euglenophytes in this area previously. All the presented species are described thoroughly and illustrated in this paper.
The phytoplankton community in three stations at Samarra Reservoir was studied seasonally. A total of 149 taxa were identified, ten of which were new additions to the Iraqi flora. The density ranged from 0.43 to 18.56 10³ ind. cm-³, Bacillariophyceae were found to be the dominant group. Variation in species dominance between seasons and stations was observed. The density of phytoplankton, chlorophyll ɑ concentration, and the share of Cyanophyta and Euglenophyta were higher at the station polluted with municipal sewage.
