Dacne (Ducne) brodzinskyi sp. nov. (Erotylidae: Dacninae), described here from amber, is the first member of the Dacninae recorded from the West Indies (Hispaniola). Dacne maculata Chûjô and D. zonaria Lewis are here transferred to the subgenus Xenodacne Boyle. A key and a checklist to all known species of Dacne Latreille are presented.
Triplax califomica LeConte and T. antica LeConte are found to be conspecific. Both populations represent distinct, well-defined subspecies with a narrow zone where the populations freely interbreed. Data regarding fungal host relationships of this species indicate a broader host range for the adults than is known for other North American Triplax.
The first descriptions of immature stages for the genus Megischyrus Crotch are provided. Descriptions are given for the final larval instar of Megischyrus discipennis Lacordaire and a Megischyrus species tentatively identified as M. nicaraguae Crotch. The egg of M. discipennis is briefly characterized. The descriptive literature on larval Erotylidae is reviewed.
The species of Languriidae, Erotylidae, and Helotidae in the “Erotylidae” collection of George Robert Crotch, preserved at the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge, England, are cataloged. The label data of potential type material are recorded. The present combination or status of each taxon is provided.
Erotylus tectiformis Kuhnt and E. mirabilis Kuhnt are redescribed and lectotypes designated.
Triplax elongata LAC. was found in Warszawa - Bielany, in the central part of Poland. The species is new to the Polish fauna.
Two introduced species – Dacne picta CROTCH, 1873 and Cynaeus angustus (LECONTE, 1851) – have been recorded in Poland for the first time. The first species was collected in Elbląg (Masurian Lake District, NE Poland), the second one in Oborniki Śląskie (Trzebnickie Hills, SW Poland). Data on their distribution and history of introductions to Europe are briefly summarized.
The Neotropical genus Lybanodes Gorham is defined and six new species are described: L. bicolor Skelley (Peru and Brasil), L. lescheni Skelley (Ecuador), L. rostratus Skelley (Costa Rica), L. sasquatch Skelley (Costa Rica and Panama), L. similis Skelley (Colombia), and L. stigmatus Skelley (Peru). Larvae of L. bicolor, L. castaneus, and L. lescheni are described. Illustrations and keys are provided to aid in identification of both larvae and adults. A cladistic analysis is presented. Fungal host use and specializations are discussed.
As a result of the faunistic studies conducted in 2014-2015 in eight promotional forest complexes in Poland, 14 species of saproxylic beetles were recorded, representing 10 families. The presence of new localities for saproxylic beetles, i.e. Evodinellus borealis (Gyll.) (Cerambycidae), Pediacus dermestoides (F.) (Cucujidae), Triplax scutellaris Charp. (Erotylidae), Benibotarus taygetanus (Pic) (Lycidae) and Hallomenus axillaris (Ill.) (Tetratomidae), was also recorded.
Twenty four species of the families Hydrophilidae, Anobiidae, Cyphonidae, Heteroceridae, Dermestidae, Melyridae, Silvanidae, Phalacridae, Nitidulidae, Lathridiidae, Erotylidae, Melandryidae, Oedemeridae and Tenebrionidae recorded from the Puszcza Bukowa forest (NW Poland) are discussed.
