A new species of the genus Opatrum Fabricius, 1775, O. (Opatrum) malgorzatae sp. nov., is described from Corsica. It is compared to its Sardinian endemic relative O. (Opatrum) dahli Küster, 1849. Photographs of habitus and aedeagus of both species are presented.
To determine the helminth fauna of wild boars, 160 stomachs and intestines, 72 lungs and 58 livers of animals from eight areas in Corsica, have been examined. It is the first study made in this Mediterranean island. The evaluation of the helminthic composition revealed six following species: Dicrocoelium dendriticum (Rudolphi, 1819), larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus (Goeze, 1782), Ascaris suum (Goeze, 1782), Metastrongylus sp., Globocephalus urosubulatus (Alessandrini, 1909), Macracanthorhynchus hirudinaceus (Pallas, 1781). Differences among prevalence data indicated an overdispersed helminth distribution in Corsica.
The tenebrionid genus Asida Latreille, 1802 is revised for the French fauna. An important voucher material is studied from 13 European institutions and 46 private personal collections. For each species, systematic, taxonomic, and ecological notes, as well as photographs of the habitus are provided. Distribution maps, an updated catalogue, and an illustrated key to species and subspecies, are also given. New synonym: Asida dejeanii Sober, 1836 = Asida detrita Rey, 1892, syn. Nov. Confirmed synonymies: Asida dejeanii Sober, 1836 = Asida dejeani var. crispata Rey, 1892; Asida dejeanii Sober, 1836 = Asida dejeani var. sinuans Rey, 1892; Asida sabulosa Fuessly, 1775 = Asida grisea var. glabricosta Sober, 1836; Asida sabulosa Fuessly, 1775 = Asida vicina Sober, 1836; Asida sabulosa Fuessly, 1775 = Asida insidiosa Mulsant, 1854; Asida jurinei Sober, 1836 = Asida bigorrensis Sober, 1836. Two new species are described from Corsica: Asida christinae sp. nov., Asida coachei sp. nov. New taxonomic status: Asida lepidoptera Allard, 1868 is downgraded to A. carinata ssp. lepidoptera Allard, 1868 (= squamigera Reitter, 1917), stat. nov. Asida carinata var. devillei Leoni, 1909 is raised to A. devillei Leoni, 1909, stat. nov. Asida dejeanii var. massiliensis Baudi di Selve, 1875 is raised to A. massiliensis Baudi di Selve, 1875, stat. nov. Revised taxonomic status: Asida ligurica Baudi di Selve, 1875 and A. marmottani Brisout de Barneville, 1863 are recognised bonae species. New faunistic records: Asida ligurica Baudi di Selve, 1875 is recorded for the first time in SE France, Alpes-Maritimes. Asida schusteri Reitter, 1917 is recorded for the first time in Italy, N Sardinia. Lectotype designations: Asida bayardi var. ligurica Baudi di Selve, 1875; A. carinata Sober, 1836; A. dejeanii Sober, 1836; A. dejeani var. crispata Rey, 1892; A. dejeani var. sinuans Rey, 1892; A. dejeanii var. massiliensis Baudi di Selve, 1875; A. genei Sober, 1836; A. grisea var. glabricosta Sober, 1836; A. jurinei Sober, 1836; A. jurinei var. pyrenaea Baudi di Selve, 1875; A. lepidoptera Allard, 1868; A. longicollis Sober, 1836; A. marmottani Brisout de Barneville, 1863; A. reticulata Sober, 1836; A. vicina Sober, 1836. Neotype designation: Asida carinata var. devillei Leoni, 1909.
Gravid or subgravid females of the following three species belonging to the nematode genus Philometra were collected from marine perciform fishes of the Bonifacio Strait Marine Reserve, Corsica, France: Philometra justinei sp. nov. (prevalence 1.5%, intensity 11) and Philometra sp. (prevalence 3%, intensity 2) from the abdominal cavity and gonads, respectively, of the striped red mullet Mullus surmuletus (Mullidae), and Philometra serranellicabrillae Janiszewska, 1949 (prevalence 27%, intensity 2–6) from the gonads of the comber Serranus cabrilla (Serranidae). The newly described species, P. justinei, is mainly characterized by the absence of an anterior bulbous inflation of the oesophagus, body length of the gravid female (196 mm), conspicuously large amphids, number and distribution of cephalic papillae, and the morphology of larvae. It is the second known species of Philometra parasitizing fishes of the family Mullidae and the ninth species of this genus reported from marine fishes of the Mediterranean region. P. serranellicabrillae, studied for the first time by SEM, is redescribed.
