In 1995, observations were conducted on the intensity of the Colorado beetle on potato varieties and strains. The studies showed variation in this pest occurrence on different varieties and strains.
Colinfors is a computer aided information system dealing with protection of potato plantations against colorado beetle. The program provides information concerning colorado beetle life cycle and usage of insecticide against the pest. Moreover it enables to forecast the appearance of any pest stage on the base of degree days method.
A study has been carried out on the basis of a field experiment set up on soil of very good rye complex. The experiment was designed as randomized sub-blocks with three replications. Experimental factors included three cultivars of edible potato – Wiking, Mors, and Żagiel, and six Colorado potato beetle control methods using the following insecticides: Actara 25 WG at the rate of 80 g ha-1, Regent 200 SC at the rate of 0.1 dm3 ha-1, Calypso 480 SC at three rates: 0.05; 0.075 and 0.1 dm3 ha-1, and a control treatment without chemical protection. Magnesium and calcium contents in potato tubers were determined by the ASA method. The content of the elements depended on the cultivars, Colorado potato beetle control methods and weather conditions throughout the growing season. The insecticides applied significantly increased magnesium and calcium contents compared with the tubers harvested from the control treatment where no chemical protection was applied. Tubers of Żagiel and Wiking cultivars had the highest magnesium content and calcium content, respectively.

The paper reports results of investigations concerning the influence of saponin extract of quillaja on the food choice and development of Colorado potato beetle. Choice tests with the use of potato leaf discs treated and untreated with tested saponins’ extract were made. The influence of the presence of saponins on the food choice and intensity of insect feeding were observed. It was stated that saponins significantly restrain feeding and disturb development of this pest
Water extractsfrom selected Geraniaceae plants, to which paraffin oil was added as adjuvant, were tested. It was observed that the plant extracts researched limited Colorado potato beetle feeding and development and adding adjuvant increased the effects. The highest antifeedant activity towards Colorado potato beetlesand their larvae wasobserved in extractsobtained from Pelargonium × hortorum Bailey and Geranium pusillum L. The extract from Pelargonium × hortorum Bailey added to food showed a negative effect on the development of female reproductive organs and embryo development and showed the highest effectiveness in field conditions.
The research was conducted to evaluate the impact of sulphur compounds on the sex of Colorado potato beetle in the region of sulphur factory in Chmielów near Tarnobrzeg in 1995. The control plantations were situated in the village of Zarębki, about 30km from Chmielów. The object of the study was the average body mass of female and male specimen of the insect after full spring beetle appearance in potato plantations as well as the average body female and male mass after pupation of the larvae of the first generation and emerging from the soil. After six and twelve days of starvation, the average female and male body mass was determined. After twelve days of starvation the incident of cannibalism was noticed among the beetles of the first zone polluted by sulphur compounds.
The total saponins of alfalfa, Medicago sativa L., included in the diet of Colorado potato beetle larvae reduced their feeding, growth rate and survival. The biological activity of those compounds coming both from the roots and from the aerial parts is ,y correlated with the dose. Larvae reared on leaves treated with a 0.5% dose virtually did not feed at all and died after 4-6 days. Lower saponin doses (0.0 I and %) reduced the insects - feeding to a lesser degree. However, they inhibited their ,caused an extension of the larval stage and mortality at a level of76.7- 100%. No major differences have been found in saponin activity depending on its localization in the plant.
