The distribution and ecology of Chara braunii Gmellin 1826 in Poland is described, based on herbaria collections, literature data and own investigations. Maps showing the distribution of Ch. braunii are presented, as well as a list of localities with brief descriptions of the habitats. Additionally, some remarks on the distribution limit in the northern hemisphere are given.
A new locality of Chara braunii Gmel. [Ch. coronata Ziz.] in a fishpond localized near Tuplice village (mid-western Poland) has been found in vegetation season of the year 2002. The locality presented has been found on mineral substratum and at the depth of 20–30 cm. Presence of this species in the above-mentioned area has not been published so far. The species is the only uncorticated one among genus Chara in Europe. Although it is world-wide distributed, it has been rarely noted within Poland.
