Aphid infestation of decorative perennials

100%
The many years’ study on species composition and harmfulness of aphids infesting perennials in the decorative plant collection Agricultural University in Poznań permited to ascertain occurrence of 23 aphid species on 66 species of decoratice perennials, representing 20 botanical families. The species that occurred in all the four study seasons in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005 included: Aphis fabae Scop., Brachycaudus cardui (L.) and Aphis sedi Kalt.. Very often Aphis newtoni Theob., Acyrthosiphon malvae (Mosl.), Brachycaudus helichrysi Kalt. and Longicaudus trirhodus (Walk.) were found. Spring and early summer was the period of numerous occurrence of aphids on decorative perennials. The high degree of plant infestation was resulted in decreasing the plant’ decorative value. The aphid infestation may be especially dangerous for numerous cultivars of Dahlia x cultorum, Eryngium planum, Echinops ritro, Leucanthemum maximum, Papaver orientale, Sedum aizoon, Iris sibirica, Yucca filamentosa, Achillea ptarnica, Dicentra eximia, Doronicum orientale i Geum coccineum.
A list of aphids (Hemiptera, Aphidoidea) collected in some Bytom city parks (Park of Franciszek Kachel, Park of Adam Mickiewicz, Park "Ludowy" and Park "Fazaniec") is presented. Paper includes data 37 aphid species connected with 187 taxa, mainly deciduous trees, as well as information about bionomy of the forms collected by the authors.
The bionomy and ecology of Cinara cupressi on Thuja occidentalis was studied under insectary and controlled conditions. The number of generations per year was determined, as well as the lifespan of a generation, fecundity of the females and demographic characteristics of the population.
The first record of Muscaphis musci is given from Poland. The alate viviparous females and male were described.
During the study carried out between 2004 and 2008 in the Eastern Beskidy beech forests 78 aphid species were recorded. Among those species five ecological groups of aphids were further distinguished. Of those five groups the highest percentage share was recorded for the forest, monophagous, and monoecious species.
186 species or species groups of aphids, representing 3 families: Aphididae, Adelgidae and Phylloxeridae, were collected in Kórnik Arboretum in 2005-2008.
New data on the occurrence of 4 Stomaphis species are presented. Two species have been recorded for the first time in Pomeranian Lake District, one in the Eastern Sudety Mountains, while all 4 species have been reported for the first time from Upper Silesia.
