Paper presents the results of studies carried out amidst the farmers in 1997. Inquired farmers, most of them (73,6%) are going to enlarge their farms, but fewer farmers notice the sale offers (45,8%) or ground leasing possibilities (44,4%) in the neighbourhood. Respondents predict the future sizc of their own farms to range of 50-100 ha (30,6%), 30-50 ha (25,4%) and 20-30 ha (23,6%). Farmers are mainly interested in buying the land on credit (59,7%) or for cash (18,2%). Only 13,9% would be willing to sell their farms, and 11,1% consider moving out to another place. 19,5% declared readiness to change their job and give up farming. Still as many as 41,6% farmers would not choose the profession if they were given one more chance to choose. Some farmers discern the advantages in taking up some mutual ventures with other farmers, especially in selling their products (26,8%) and supplying with production means (25,2%). Some farmers (45,8%) think that joining the EU will be beneficial for the country, though the number of people who anticipated benefits for themeselves as farmers was much lower (25,0%).
