The aim of the study was to estimate the state of fat metabolism in cows on the basis of some indices of the fertility test. Forty-eight cows divided into 4 groups were clinically and biochemically assessed at 4 and 2 weeks before parturition and 1—2 and 4 weeks after parturition. The following were evaluated: the level of glucose, total and HDL cholesterol, triglicerydes, total lipids and the concentration of fat free acids (NEFA). In the perinatal period some disturbances in fatty metabolism were found, as well as an increased NEFA concentration. In addition, a decreased content of triglicerydes and total cholesterol were observed. The changes were associated with low fertility of cows.
The aim of the study was to determine the influence of disturbed lipid metabolism in dairy cows on the functional condition of the liver. The laboratory investigations have been performed on 48 black-white breed cows divided into four groups: 4 and 2 weeks before parturitation and 1-2 and 5 weeks after delivery. In spite of the markers of fat metabolism (NEFA, TG and total cholesterol), it has been possible to determine the activity of GGTP, LDH and AspAT. The results indicate an impairment in the liver function during disturbed lipid metabolism in cows. The changes had a subclinical character and were more pronounced after parturitation. The activity of hepatic enzymes, particularly GGTP, in useful for diagnosis of subclinical disturbances of liver functions in the course of lipid metabolism disturbances. The enzyme activity should be analysed together with fat metabolism markers mainly with a concentration of NEFA.
The examination have been undertaken in order to determine the influence of avoparcin given to cows during high pregnancy and early lactation on their health, fertility and milk yields. The data were assessed in relation to the indices of lipid metabolism. The studies included 120 cows divided into two groups, i.e. the experimental one and the control. The experimental group was given avoparcin to the fodder at the dose of 100 mg per one animal per 24 hours for 4 weeks prior to parturition and 100 days after it. The control group was similarly fed but without avoparcin. The results obtained revealed that the addition of avoparcin influenced the liver activity as a stabilizer of lipid metabolism especially before parturition. No side effects were observed. Under such conditions better milk yields and reproduction performance were noticed.
