Silurian Tabulata from North-East Poland

The results are presented of a study of the Tabulata corals from the profile of borehole Widowo, in the vicinity of Bielsk Podlaski. Fourteen species assigned to 7 genera described in the present paper (3 species are new) indicate the Wenlockian age.

Four species of the Tabulata, belonging to four genera, have been described and the development of a colony in the Syringopora traced. The assemblage under study confirms Upper Silurian age of lower Rzepin Beds in Łęczyce-Bełcz section. Faunal and facial characteristics of the profile have been presented.

Aggregated character of the colony in Catenipora and Halysites

The proper colony form of Catenipora and Halysites is a single chain, which never branched, budding in these corals being terminal and singular. The buds never appeared on lateral walls nor on the junctions between the neighbouring corallites. The chains, singular at first, later on joined together accidentally, forming an aggregate colony, which was built by several generations of planulae. The corallite structure and offsetting are typical of Tabulata.

New generic name, Palaeofavosipora, is proposed for preoccupied name Favosipora Stasińska, 1967. New monotypic family Palaeofavosiporidae is considered to be intermediate between the Auloporidae and Favositidae. Palaeofavosipora clausa multiplies by budding on the walls.

The genus Kozlowskia from the Couvinian of Grzegorzowice in the Holy Cross Mountains (Góry Świętokrzyskie), assigned to a new family Kozlowskiidae, was erected by the writer in 1958. Now, on the basis of a new material, supplementary observations have been made concerning the structure of wall and ontogenetic development. At the same time, since the name of Kozlowskia was preoccupied (Fredericks, 1933), new generic and family names have been introduced.

Colony structure and systematic assignment of Cladochonus tenutcollis McCoy, 1847 (Hydroidea)

Colony and corallite structure of Cladochonus tenuicollis such as: the lack of tabulae and septal apparatus, presence of diaphragms between corallites, as well as the sympodial mode of budding, are different than in tabulates. These features make Cladochonus close to Hydroidea. Analysis of structure of the Carboniferous species C. parasitica Vassiljuk proves that it is a junior synonym of C. tenuicollis McCoy.

L'auteur expose les resultats d'études des fossiles mésodévoniens des Monts de Sainte-Croix en Pologne, appartenant aux groupes: Tabulata (21 espèces, dont 5 nouvelles), Heliolitida (1 espèce) et Chaetetida (4 espèces, dont 1 nouvelle). Pour une espèce des Tabulés un genre nouveau ,a été établi, représentant une famille nouvelle.

Jan Czarnocki, éminent investigateur de la géologie des Monts de Ste -Croix (Góry Świętokrzyskie), a découvert en 1927 des empreintes de Méduses fossiles dans le Cambrien inférieur de la localité Brzechów. La collection lassie par Czarnocki comprend 118 individus plus ou moins fragmentaires. Ces Méduses sont attribuées à une seule espèce decrite ici sous le nom de Velumbrella czarnockii n. gen., n.sp. Cette forme s' approche surtout du genre Ediacaria Sprigg du Cambrien inférieur de l'Australie. Toutes les deux semblent appartenir aux Trachymedusae ou aux Limnomedusae.
