The willow has been utilised from the very dawn of the civilisation. Quite recently some species of willow have been used in a number of environmental applications. The willow’s numerous virtues include fast growth, ability to colonise difficult habitats, to draw and store biogens and trace elements and pollarding. The authors discuss willow’s applications in household sewage treatment plants and as fuel.
