In the Carboniferous no one undoubtedly aquatic insect remain is found. Mayflies and stoneflies were the oldest aquatic insects found in the Early Permian. Permian was the time when the aquatic insects became diverse and probably colonized different types of waters. Only one mayfly is found in the Early Triassic. The Middle and Late Triassic aquatic insect assemblages are characterized by combination of Paleozoic and Mesozoic elements. Diverse and widespread lacustrine insects are typical for the Jurassic. Recent families of aquatic insects appeared in the Early Cretaceous. The Late Cretaceous assemblages are considerably impoverished. The Cenozoic is the time of recolonization of lacustrine habitats.

A new genus and species of Baleyopterygidae, Aristoleuctra yehae gen. and sp. nov. collected from the Middle Jurassic of Daohugou Village, Shantou Township, Ningcheng County, Inner Mongolia, China, is described and illustrated. This is the first report of Baleyopterygidae from China. With the establishment of Aristoleuctra, Baissoleuctra conspecta Sinitshenkova, 1992 from Late Jurassic - Early Cretaceous of East Siberia is transferred to this genus.

A new genus and species Multiramificans ovalis gen. and sp. nov. of the family Siphlonuridae s.Z., is described from the Middle Jurassic Jiulongshan Formation of the Daohugou, Inner Mongolia in China. Detailed description and illustration of the specimen along with a brief review of fossil Siphlonuridae s.l. are given. The problems of association between nymphs and adults, and palaoenvironment are briefly discussed.
