About 60% of polish seniors (65+) living both in the cities and country, declares to be active within a week. Everyday activity is claimed by 16,7§ of old people living in a country, and by 18,4% of those who live in the cities. Following article describes the issue of low physical activity. Stereotypes, fear of pain and last but not least: organizational reasons cause such situation. The lack of offers dedicated to seniors, organizational boundaries and lack of local initiatives result in low physical activity of older people living in Trzebnica’s countryside. The author presents local initiative, supported by non-govermental organization, which seem so far to be successful in enhancing seniors to be active.
The aim of the study was to analyze the determinants of the effectiveness of physiotherapy and improve mood in people aged older. 51 seniors (average 76.8 y.o.) who were hospitalized in the Nursing Home in Wroclaw were examined. Each patient was subjected a physiotherapist program. There was carried out in parallel cognitive therapy. Sociodemographic data were obtained based on an interview conducted by nurses environmental. Data on cognitive status were obtained using the Short Scale Mental State Examination (MMSE), the functional status – using the Bartel Scale (BI) and the severity of depressive symptoms was verified using the shorthand Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). Carried out physiotherapy treatments improved cognitive function most effectively state in patients with a lack of family care capacity (p = 0.018). The effectiveness of procedures performed from baseline proved to be important for cognitive status (p = 0.007) and depressive disorders (0.008). With regard to functional status determined correlation is not indicated significance (p = 0.085). Baseline cognitive function is correlated with baseline functional status. This dependence is directly proportional and analogous in major depressive disorder. On the improvement of cognitive function is affected by the level of education senior and efficiency caring family. The lower output functional status of the patient, the greater the improvement after physiotherapy carried out. The best results obtained in this regard, patients with a history of fracture, the worst while seniors after stroke. The severity of depressive symptoms is carried out most important reduced after physiotherapy for seniors from families with efficient in terms of welfare, although regression of symptoms of depression under the influence of physiotherapy can state average in all subjects. Gender patient has no significant effect on the improvement of any of the analyzed factors.
