The depression of land in which the lake occurs was formed as result of melting away of dead ice blocks covered with morainic material left on withdrawal of the last glacier in that area. The investigations of the bed sediament of the Štrbské Lake by the radiocarbon and palynologic methods indicate that the organic sediments in the lacustrine depression began to form in the Atlantic period (7070 ± 240 years B.P.). The lake was formed by the end of the Atlantic period as a result of a more humid climate that set in. At the turn of the Atlantic and the Subboreal periods a number of lakes were formed in the Tatra Mts., even though older lakes are found there as well. The Tatra lakes underwent considerable variations in the water level related to varying humidity of the climate. The variations in the Štrbské Lake are diagrammatically shown in Fig. 5.
An analysis of floatabilityandstabilityofthefloatingdock-dockedshipsystemisthesubjectof this paper. These properties are considered for a cubicoid box dock whose dimensions are close ( almost identical) to those of SINE 212 CD dock designed by SINUS design office.The analysis is first of all aimed at determination of the above mentioned hydromechanicalproperties in the light of the relevant requirements of PRS dealing with minimum freeboard of the dock and its initial metacentric height. It has been concluded that the analyzed dock reveals the designed docking capability which is not constrained by the PRS requirements though the dock in question is fitted with the roofing unfavourable for dock stability. It has been shownthat assessing the tranverse stability of the dock as well as of docked ship ( floating object) by means ofa stability factor instead of metacentric height, is reasonable. The work was performed within the frame of EUREKA – E! 2968 ECOLOGICAL DOCK research project
Response amplitude operators (RAOs) , short-term and long-term predictions of hydrodyna-mical response of a floating dock towedin conditions of Baltic and NorthSea,a represented and analyzed. The research was focused on : heave and pitch motions, dynamic pressure induced in different parts of the dock’s bottom, vertical bending moment and resistance of the dock towed in head seas. The RAOs of the considered responses were determined by means of model tests and/or a computer calculation program based on strip theory. Discrepancies between so obtained values of the characteristics and predicted values of relevant responses, calculated on their basis, were indicated
