Skiing is not only a mode of moving over snow but it is also the oldest winter sport. Downhill skiing is most popular. This sport concentrates mainly in mountain areas, in Poland it is the Carpathians Mountains and the Sudeten. Downhill skiing requires adjusted downhill tracks, providing maximum safety. From environmental viewpoint, skiing often collides with objectives related to national and landscape parks located in the mountains. If the track is properly designed, its environmental impact is confined. The article uses track no 5 in Pilsko (the Beskid Mountains), Hala Miziow-Szczawina glade section, as an example of a properly designed ski track.
