In 3-year field experiments ( 1987-1989), green matter and dry matter yields of cultivars and strains of Timothy were evaluated. The native cultivars and strains of Timothy were cultivated either alone or in mixtures with cultivars of Red clover: Nike (diploid) and Jubilatka (tetraploid). Among the cultivars and strains of Timothy, small tough significant differences in green and dry matter yield were observed. The highest yields of Timothy were obtained from the strain KRH-35 ad the lowest from the cultivar Kaba. The highyielding strain KRH-35 with its relatively high contribution of stems in the total yield, had relatively high content of crude fibre. Protein content (in dry matter) was generally increased in Timothy - Red clover mixtures as compared to Timothy sown alone. Protein yield (kg/ha) reflected the above general relationship. The different genetic forms of Red clover (diploid and tetraploid), had no apparent effect on the yield and its quality, expect Kaba's variety. The highest yield were obtained in case of mixtures with tetraploid Red clover, because of its higher vigor then diploid Red clover.
