Principle of sustainable development has also its equivalent in game management. Contemporary hunting is based on the wise use of renewable natural resources, i.e. game animals in this case. Sustainable harvesting is possible in undisturbed and healthy habitats. One can safely assume that game management is an applied conservation of both animals and their habitat. It is thus a safeguard of the protection of biodiversity in hunting reviers. Game management exploits several animal species; but at the same time maintains entire endemic fauna and strives at the balance between animals and their habitat. Such an attitude is required by European Union directives and international conventions. Game populations have to be maintained at the level determined by ecological, scientific and cultural requirements while ranking also into account economic and recreational needs. Recreational hunting is nowadays an only acceptable by society form of hunting. Natural environment and animals inhabiting it face however numerous threats caused by the growing human population and civilization advances.
