The infratemporal fossa is often the site of pathology or surgical intervention. We describe an unusual muscle found during the routine dissection of the right infratemporal fossa. The literature germane to this variable muscle, best described as a variant of the pterygoideus proprius, is reviewed. The clinician may contemplate the wide array of muscular anomalies within the infratemporal fossa when considering unexplained neurological symptoms attributed to branches of V3 and pursue appropriate diagnostic testing.
In cases of glaucoma with elevated intra ocular pressure, the first objective of treatment is its reduction and normalization. In cases when excessive pressure has resulted in a loss of vision, the aim of treatment is to attenuate the pain and to improve the comfort of the patient. This paper presents a case of glaucoma secondary to anterior uveitis, resistant to pharmacological treatment. A gonioscopic examination in both eyes revealed a narrowed filtration angle. An ophthalmoscopic examination of the fundus showed partial retinal detachment. The cyclodialysis procedure was performed in both eyes. In the post-surgery period, intraocular pressure (IOP) in both eyes showed a downward tendency. The treatment of glaucoma secondary to anterior uveitis, particularly in its advanced state, often requires the combination of pharmacological treatment with a surgical procedure. Positive results in maintaining the patency of the fistula were observed after the application of a steroid therapy and a regular massage of filtration bleb, which significantly contributed to maintaining IOP at a desired level.
The aim of the study was to investigate the presence of protein p53 in correlation with other tumor traits: histological type, tumor grade and proliferative activity. Material for the investigation comprised mammary gland tumours collected from dogs, the patients of veterinary clinics, during surgical procedures, and archival samples. Altogether 21 adenomas, 31 complex carcinomas, 35 simple carcinomas and 12 solid carcinomas were qualified for further investigation. No proteinp53 expression was found in adenomas. Cancers show positive reaction in 32.5%. The highest percent of p53 positive neoplasms was observed in solid carcinomas and neoplasms with the highest degree of histological malignancy. The smallest number showing this expression was observed in adenomas and the highest was characteristic for solid carcinomas. Considering the tumour grading, it was found that an increase in neoplasm malignancy was positively correlated with the number of the cells showing the expression of protein p53. The differences were statistically significant. Statistically significant positive correlations were observed between the proliferative activity and protein p53 expression. Higher accumulation of protein p53 in more malignant neoplasms suggests that mutations of protein p53 can be responsible for higher proliferation in neoplasms with advanced progression of malignancy.
