Twenty five genotypes of spring barley were tested in 1983- -1985. The analysis of variance has proved a significant differentiation of objects with regard to all quantitative traits under study. The heritability in broad sense appeared to be high for number of grains per ear, lower for 1000 grain weight, grain yield and total protein content in grain and relatively lowest for plant height and number of ears per 1 m². The analysis of path coefficients has proved a strong indirect negative effect of the protein content, number of grains per ear, number of ears per 1 m² and 1000 grain weight on the grain yield. The BKH-29N/80, BKH - 408N/81, BKH-407N/81, Hor-5309, BKH-390N/81 and Hor-5867 have been distinguished. They can be used as valuable genetic sources for increasing the protein content in grain of fodder varieties.
