This study deals with leaf beetles inhabiting tree canopies and the herb layer in mature pine forests. The research was conducted in four large forest areas in northern and eastern Poland in 1986-1987. A total of 51 Chrysomelidae species were found in all the forest stands. 24 species were found in pine canopies, and 40 in the herb layer. Two species - Cryptacephalus pint and Calomlcrus pinlcola - were associated with pine. A large number of species were registered in both vegetation layers, Aphthona euphorbiae and Galerucella. llneola being the most abundant of them. Species composition and abundance of chrysomelid communities were different in each area. The differences were partly due to floristic composition and geographical location of the stands.
