The work summarizes the results of experiments in which availability of various fodders compositions in the nutrition of early weaned calves was estimated. Among others it was noticed that fodder preferences of calves, observed in the tests for free choice of particular components or whole mixtures, only slightly affected the fodder intake during calves bringing up. Postextraction meal applied for calf mixtures and rapesed presscake of the Jantar variety made a good substitute of postextraction soy meal. Application of corn-leguminous silage or silage made from withered grass as exclusive bulky feed in the dose had neither any effect on the digestibility of nutritive components, nor increased the intake of dry mass doses. As was established, the errors in the estimation of energetic value of fodders in Kellner’s system as well as in the estimation of calves demand for energy and protein proved limited availability of Polish Nutrition Standards for Farm Animals in establishing and estimation of doses composition for early weaned calves. Optimal daily mass growth of calves, being 600 g in the period from 11 th to 70 th day of life, was obtained after giving ab. 205 dm³ of full milk with each kilogram of nutritive fodder taken daily by calves.
