Fecal samples from red deer from polish and belorussian parts of Białowieża Forest were examined by Baermann method. First stage larvae of three species of lung nematodes were found. In polish part in 100% of samples were larvae of E. cervi, in 50% V. sagittatus and in 21% D. noemeri, and in belorussian the level of infection was lower and larvae were in 92%, 36% and 12% of samples respectively. In significant part of samples were met mixtured invasion of two or three species. Finding of larvae of E. cervi is the first registration of this species in belorussian part of Białowieża Forest, and V. sagittatus is a new species for the fauna of Byelorussia. Ncmatodes E. cervi are dangerous for domestic ruminants.
Faecal samples from 716 cats from Poland, were examined for lungworm larvae (Metastrongyloidea) by flotation, sedimentation and Baermann techniques between January 2016 and April 2019 year. In total, 1.1% (8/716; CI ± 95% 0.3-1.9) of cats shed lungworm larvae. In the animals examined, infections with Aelurostrongylus abstrusus predominated (7 positive samples), while larvae of Troglostrongylus brevior were detected in only one sample. These invasions were more prevalent in animals under 6 months of age (3.0%) (6/201; CI ± 95%; 0.6-5.4) than in those older than one year (0.4%) (2/515; CI ± 95% 0.0-0.9). Overall, a distinct seasonal pattern was apparent in the detection of infected cats, but annual volatility was not observed. A relatively large proportion of lungworm-infected cats (4 out of 8) had pulmonary syndromes, which indicates that these parasitic diseases should be considered in differential diagnosis of any inflammations of the respiratory system, especially in young animals.
During the years 1991—1992 fecal samples of 119 red deer, 87 fallow deer and 78 roe deer from two different hunting area in the South and North parts of Poland (Pszczyna and Iława, respectively) were examined using the Vajda method. Larvae of 4 species of Protostrongylidae and Dictyocaulidae were found. In red deer — Elaphostrongylus cervi, Dictyocaulus noerneri, Varestrongylus sagittatus on both areas; in fallow deer — E. cervi, D. noerneri, V. sagittatus in Iława and E. cervi, D. noerneri in Pszczyna; in roe deer — V. capreoli and D. noerneri in Iława and V. capreoli in Pszczyna. The highest extensiveness of invasion of E. cervi reached 86% (82% on the average) and was found in Pszczyna. Extensiveness of invasions of fallow deer living on the same biotopes with red deer was much lower and reached 50.3% on the average.
