Endosperm supported induction of callus from mesocotyl of mature embryos was used to compare the applicability of 21 varieties of winter wheal for in vitro cultures. In the preliminary experiment optimal conditions for the induction and stimulation of callus growth were created. The highest growth of the callus biomass and its best regeneration ability was observed when the induction of the callus was started simultaneously with germination, whereas the optimal moment for the removal of the non callusing organs of the embryo was the eight day since starting the induction of callus.
