Directive 96/61 EU on integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) belongs to the so-called framework EU legislation defining general principles of environmental protection. IPPC directive introduces uniform, Community-wide tools for prevention and full control over environmental impacts of economic activities. This directive is considered one of the most important EU legal acts, but its implementation is very difficult. The author discusses the principles of the application of the directive and relevant obligations of Member States.
