The objective of the article is to compare the dynamics if prices for essential foods with the index for consumer goods and services as a whole and with the dynamics of wages and salaries. In the surveys, there are taken into account 10 products and covered the period of 1990-2005. It is stated that till 1996, prices for foods as well as prices for goods and services as a whole were growing at a similar pace. In next years, prices for goods were growing considerable slower, and prices for services were growing at a pace similar to the previous one, till 2000, and then the both indices presented an approximate dynamics again. The both indices were growing slower than average wages and salaries in the national economy. This has caused an increase in the wages and salaries purchasing power.
