Among all trees and bushes of local origin the yew has the longest and the most interesting biography. Its genealogy starts 350 to 400 million years ago. On account of the high quality its wood was valuable and demanded. This fact caused quick devastation of yew gatherings. That is why in 1420 already King Władysław Jagiełło gave a special law to protect this tree. Nowadays there are only few yews growing in the natural environment. On the other hand yews from artificial arboriculture are getting more and more popular now in big town parks — becouse of their resistance to air pollution.
