From 1980 to 1990 savory (Saturcja hortensis L.) was bred to get new valuable variety. The directional crossing of chosen forms and selection were done to obtain valuable and high quality forms. The best strain was offered to investigation at the COBORU. After 3 years of study the new variety of savory was registered as Saturn.
From 1988 to 1990 the comparative experiments were done to compare new bred strains of savory (Satureja hortensis L.) with a cultivated population. After close examination of several features (yield of fresh and dry herbs, contain of essential oil, yield of seeds), the strains No. 1 and No. 35 were occured the best. The yield of herb and seeds were good, the raw material had a small amount of stems, which influenced good quality of herb. The contain of essential oil in herb was high. The investigations showed that the new bred strains had an advantage over the cultivated population.
