In the present paper a review of the genus Macrocheilus HOPE, 1838 (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Helluonini) of China is provided, with descriptions of seven new species, viz. M. parvimaculatus sp. nov., M. gigas sp. nov., M. fuscipennis sp. nov., M. solidipalpis sp. nov., M. cheni sp. nov., M. quadratus sp. nov., and M. sinuatilabris sp. nov.. A key to all species found in China is also given. In addition, M. asteriscus White is reported from Laos, Indonesia and India for the first time.

Carabid beetle mean individual biomass (MIB) was analysed in three postindustrial areas, where different environment regeneration types were observed. In total three postindustrial dumps were selected, two of them with spontaneous succession (age about 70 and 15–20 years) and one recultivated (age about 15–20 years). Moreover undisturbed forest was chosen as reference area. Additionally in research areas observations concerning changes in the abundance and dominance of individuals characteristic for open and forest habitats were done. During the field studies 1871 carabids were caught and indicated to species level. The results showed significant differences in MIB values according to regeneration type and succession age. Generally according to one-way Anova analysis MIB values increased with stand age, but there are also difference according to spontaneously revegetaed and recultivated areas. Comparing postindustrial areas with the same age, but with different type of regeneration (spontaneous or recultivation), the MIB values was lower in recultivated area. In these areas, the lowest number of carabids forest species was observed too, which may indicate a strongly disturbed and slow rate of assemblages regeneration. Our results indicate that the mean individual biomass index (MIB) can be usefull tool for assessment succession rate in strongly disturbed postindustrial areas.
Agonurn (Sericoda) quadripunctatum (De Geek) is a pyropliilous beetle tliat occurs only at sites where forest or peat has been burnt. Adults of this species are certainly attracted to various fires, probably by the smell of smoke from distant places, and stay on a conflagration sites for a short period only. The immature stages of A. (S.) quadripunctatum are described and figured for the first time.
The attractiveness of uncultivated (weedy) and cultivated strips (planted with a mixture of flowering plants) and the adjacent sugar beet crop to Carabidae was studied in 1999–2000 at the Experimental Research Station near Wrocław, Poland. Obtained results showed that greater plant abundance and their diversity on weedy strips had a positive effect on the number of carabid beetles. Also more carabid species were identified in uncultivated strips than in strips of mixture of Phacelia tanacetifolia, Coriandrum sativum and Sinapis alba. The lowest number of species was trapped in sugarbeet crop and bare soil. The most numerous species in all treatments were Pseudoophonus rufipes, Anchomenus dorsalis (Pont.), Poecilus cupres and the species of the Bembidion genera.
