There has been compared a diagnostic value of three serological methods and a delayed — type skin hepersensitivity (DTSH) test in cattle infected with bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BHV-1). VN24 test, i.e. the neutralization test with an incubation of virus-serum mixture or 24 hours, showed the highest sensitivity, whereas an ELISA and a standard neutralization (VN1) assay failed to detect BHV-1 antibody in some VN24 positive serum samples. The DTSH test also failed to detect some animals that were positive by VN24, however, in contrast to the ELISA and VN1 assays about 4 per cent of cattle with negative VN24 results appeared to be positive by DTSH reaction.
