During the field research conducted in the period 2016-2023 on the distribution of beetles in S Poland 25 new sites of Meloe (Bolognaia) rugosus M ARSHAM , 1802 were found. New localisations are located in 19 UTM squares 10x10 km including 16 squares where this species has never been observed before. The new observations are part of the known area of occurrence of the species. It should be emphasized that the species has been repeatedly found in the Małopolska Upland, Lower Silesia, the Sandomierz Lowland and the Eastern Beskids Mts. In addition, single sites of M. rugosus were found in the Western Sudetes and in the Kraków-Wieluń Upland. The largest number of new sites was discovered in the Małopolska Upland. New data support the hypothesis that M. rugosus is much more widely distributed in the southern, especially foothill and upland part of the country than previously thought. Work on its detailed distribution should be continued.
