The study was carried out in 3 cowsheds of industrial cattle husbandry on 62 black-and white lowland breed cows of different ages. Group I - 12 cows, in which until 2 weeks after parturition the observed signs were recognised as metritis ichorosa. Each cow was treated by an intrauterine infusion of two doses (two 10 ml injectors) of Metrisan, and intramuscular injection of prostaglandin. A systematic antibiotic treatment was used in the cows showing a rise in internal body temperature. Group II - 20 cows, in which during 2-4 weeks after parturition endometritis of the 3rd and 2nd degree was diagnosed. Each cow was treated with one dose of examination from 24 cows of group I and II before the infusion. Group III - 30 cows, in which signs of disease were not noticed, were the control group. The efficacy of the treatment was estimated every 7 days. The treated cows were administered the preparation twice or three times until the uterus was recognised as recovered. Altogether 10 cows were qualified for insemination (83.33%) from group I and 20 cows (100%) from group II. The bacteriological examination showed the presence of non-specific microorganisms in 19 cows (79.17%). Due to infertility, 7 cows (21.88%) were culled in the group of the cows treated with Metrisan and 3 cows (10%) in the control group. The mean calving interval for the cows treated with Metrisan was 116.4 days and did not differ significantly from the duration of this parameter in the control group (106.5 days).
