Cocarboxylasum, Sylimarol, Methiovit, Vit.
Stabilization of fractures at distal third of antebrachial bones in toy breed dogs is often connected with bone healing complications, including delayed union or nonunion. In the present study 9 toy breed dogs with fractures at distal third of the epiphysis of two antebrachial bones were treated. Each dog had fractured both thoracic limbs. In all the dogs, internal stabilization was applied using the 1 mm, 4 or 5 - hole reconstructive mini plates. In three dogs mini plates were applied in treatment of non-union of antebrachial bones. In each case radius bone was stabilized only. X-ray examination performed in all the dogs 10 weeks postoperatively showed complete adhesion of treated bones. It was found that application of reconstructive mini plates in treatment of simultaneous fractures of distal shaft of both antebrachial bones is effective therapeutic method.
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is an ortobiological material, which is gaining popularity in the treatment, regeneration and acceleration of tissue healing. The article contains extensive information about the nature, mechanism of action, therapeutic properties and application of autologous platelet rich plasma (PRP) in medicine. The authors describe the technology of the acquisition and the effects of the PRP injection site, its beneficial effects on the regeneration of collagen, wound healing and reconstruction operations involving transplants.
The aim of this article was showing the problem of burn treatment as a syndrome of correlated and dependent rescue activities in the light of pathophysiological phenomena. For the veterinary practice these are a serious challenge, not only because of the complexity of the problem, but also because of its rarity. The changing picture of a scalding wound and progressing disease influence the condition of the animal. The dynamics of changes and different stages of the disease have an impact on the quality of treatment procedures, namely shock therapy, fluid and oxygen resuscitation, controlling infection and pain and using early surgical procedures. Burns are one of the commonest injuries that can happen to living organisms. The expression of symptoms, time of its occurrence and critical influence on vital parameters obviously prove this to be true. The ability of recognizing the pathological state and proper classification to the right group of injuries determines an animal’s survival chances. This article does not cover the complexity of the burn treatment problem, but in considering contemporary knowledge on pathology of this phenomenon it stresses the necessity of staging procedures and a multifaceted approach to treatment.
Canine hip dysplasia is a complex skeletal malformation caused by genetic and environmental factors. The prevalence of hip dysplasia in different canine breeds ranges widely, from 1% (for Whippet and Borzoi) to over 70% (for Bulldog and Pug). These differences indicate the presence of genetic variants predisposing to or preventing this disorder in gene pools of particular breeds. The importance of genetic factors is also confirmed by a high coefficient of heritability (h2) of canine hip dysplasia, which for most breeds oscillates around 0.5 – 0.6. Application of modern genomic methods, that is, mainly genome scanning (based previously on microsatellite markers and currently on SNP microarrays) has led in recent years to the identification of potential genetic markers associated with this disorder. Such studies were carried out mostly in two breeds: Labrador retriever and German shepherd. Some of the markers were found in the vicinity of genes involved in skeletal development. Following these achievements, the use of some markers has been suggested for early risk diagnosis of hip dysplasia. This shows that molecular testing is becoming important for not only monogenic, but also polygenic canine diseases and disorders. Identification of genetic markers associated with predisposition to hip dysplasia offers an opportunity for an early risk evaluation of this disorder (prior to its first signs). Moreover, it facilitates effective breeding selection aimed at eradicating undesirable genetic variants from the gene pool of a given breed.
