A standard grain combine harvester in its factory version causes great losses and damage of rape seeds during harvesting. These losses are resulting from a different reaction of rape plants from that of cereals to the operation of combine working elements. In the course of many years invetigations the sources and causes of these losses have been determined. A technology of harvesting, which allowed to decrease quantitative losses and seed damages was elaborated. An adequate combine adaptation and optimum selection of working parameters of its assemblies for the actual physical state of canopy, varieties, time of harvesting and agrometeorological factors have been made.

The field of rape is characterized by a very complex geometrical structure. The presented studies aim at determination of the distribution of forces binding the plants and of the propagation range of waves transferred by plants. The video technique was applied here for recording translations simultaneously with measurements of forces binding one plant with the others. The studies are of preliminary nature and are limited to the simplest load state of the field "cubicoid".

W kombajnie zbożowym ZO56 Bizon-Super, wytypowano pięć miejsc, i których pobierano próbki w celu określenia źródeł powstawania uszkodzeń nasion w taki sposób, aby uzyskane rezultaty jednoznacznie określały wpływ poszczególnych podzespołów i ich parametrów pracy na stopień uszkadzenia nasion rzepaku. Ocenie uszkodzeń poddawano nasiona stanowiące reprezentatywną próbkę całej partii nasion pobranych w poszczególnych punktach pomiarowych, w sposób losowy. Określano makro i mikrouszkodzenia oraz połówki. W pracy przedstawiono rozkład uszkodzeń występujących na wybranych zespołach kombajnu.

Areas were marked in Bizon-Super grain combine-harvester, from which sampling of rape seed was made to determine the sources of seed damage. This was done in such a manner that the results obtained could clearly define the effect of different combine assemblies and their parameters on the degree of damage of rape seeds. The evaluation of damage concerned seeds which consisted representative sample of the whole lot of seeds uptaken from the individual measurement points, at random, with division into macro- and microdamage as well as halves of seeds. The investigations were carried out during three successive yean on seven varieties of winter rape. In this paper the distribution of damage which appear in the chosen combine assemblies, at different parameters of their work and in two cropping terms is presented.

This paper shows how even small adaptations and adjustments in a grain combine harvester can cause a significant decrease of rape seed losses during harvesting to the level of about 3 %. For this reason, the following were introduced: an extended header floor, an active canopy divider, tailings sieve and lower sieve of the grain pan with a changed design. The above mentioned adaptations and suitable adjustment of combine assemblies in connection with the knowledge of the strength properties of siliques and the physical state of canopy, allow to reduce seed losses to the level of about 3 %.
