Observations of experimental materiał and results of bioptic investigations of muscles and intestines of humans with trichinellosis as well as the results of post mortem investigations differ from the conventional textbook descriptions. The changes of the organs induced by larvae of T. spiralis are of chronic character and need a long lasting treatment.

Four groups of gerbils, each consisting of nine animals, were inoculated with 10⁵ viable cysts of four Giardia isolates obtained from human and from zoo animals. The infected and control gerbils were killed on 7 and 21 day post infection and on 21 day post patent period of infection. This study showed that Giardia isolates recovered from different host species have various potency of inducing changes in the jejunum of gerbils and that the primary host imprinting on Giardia isolate may play an important role in the parasite’s behaviour in other host species. The earliest significant changes were observed in the jejunum of gerbils infected with Giardia obtained from a symptomatic patient. Noteworthy changes were found in the 3 week of infection: (1) the jejunal villi were shortened in gerbils infected with human Giardia isolates, and were elongated in animals infected with rodents Giardia isolates; (2) Giardia obtained from an asymptomatic person induced statistically significant changes in all the parameters of the gerbils’ jejunum except infiltration of the lamina propria; (3) although diarrhoea occurred in gerbils infected with Giardia from a cuis, there were no significant changes except the elongation of the villi and infiltration of lamina propria. The four Giardia isolates induced various mucosal mast cells responses in gerbils. Despite the three- weaks-earlier spontaneous ceasing of the infection caused by animal Giardia isolates, the changes in the jejunum persisted.

The activation of muscle cell nucleus in the course of T. spiralis infection, established using morphological methods (part I), has been confirmed in histochemical (histones, RNP) and histoenzymatic (RN-aze) investigations. The activity of the cell nucleus increased from the 5th day after infection up to the complete encapsulation of the larva (30th day) however it remained at a weak stable level in later stages of infection.

Prześledzono wpływ Thymus Factor X (TFX Polfa) - leku immunomodulującego - na inwazję mięśniową (liczbę larw i obraz histologiczny tkanki) u myszy zarażonych T. spiralis. Badania przeprowadzono na 56 myszach BALB/C zarażonych dwiema różnymi dawkami larw T. spiralis (100 lub 700 larw/1 mysz). TFX w dawce 10 mg/kg m.c. lub 30 mg/kg m.c. stosowano podskórnie we wczesnym okresie inwazji mięśniowej, tj. pomiędzy 14-23 dniem lub 14-28 dniem po zarażeniu i w późnym okresie inwazji mięśniowej, tj. między 32-45 dniem. Badania parazytologiczne i histologiczne mięśni wykonywano w 65,91 i 94 dniu po zarażeniu i w 37, 46 i 72 dniu po zakończeniu leczenia. We wszystkich grupach zwierząt badania parazytologiczne mięśni wykonane metodą wytrawiania (w sztucznym soku żołądkowym) wykazały znaczne obniżenie procentu larw Trichinella w mięśniach, który zmniejszył się od 49,3 do 84,6% w porównaniu z grupą kontrolną. Badaniem trychinoskopowym mięśni stwierdzono różnego stopnia destrukcję większości larw oraz liczne otorbione larwy o prawidłowym wyglądzie. Badanie histologiczne wykazało różnego stopnia uszkodzenia struktury otorbionych larw Trichinella, obecność rozległych nacieków komórkowych z udziałem nie tylko komórek limfocytopodobnych, eozynofilów i skąpej liczby komórek tucznych, lecz także i licznych fibroblastów; ponadto stwierdzono liczne blizny łącznotkankowe w miejscach, gdzie larwy uległy zniszczeniu. Zmiany były bardziej nasilone w grupach zwierząt zarażonych wyższą dawką larw Trichinella i leczonych we wczesnym okresie inwazji mięśniowej. Te wstępne wyniki wskazują, że preparat TFX (Polfa) przyczynia się do znacznego zmniejszenia liczby larw Trichinella w tkance mięśniowej, na skutek niszczenia ich w naciekach komórkowych.

A clinical and an epidemiological analysis was presented of a trichinellosis focus from Wielkopolska region. The studies included 20 persons and trichinellosis was diagnosed in 15 cases. The focus was characterized by asynchronous invasion with Trichinella sp. in individual affected persons in the course of a prolonged period (around 2.5 months) and by reporting of the patients to the Clinic during approximately 30 to 90 days after the disease signs/symptoms developed. Retrospective analysis and a set of specialized tests permitted to clarify causes of persisting complaints, presented by the patients, as well as to establish the diagnosis at late stages of trichinellosis.

A variety of Acanthamoeba spp. pathogenic strains were isolated from water pools in the area of Poznań. In many cases amoebae invaded lugs, kidney heart, liver and diaphragm causing significant changes in these Organs. The presence of amoeba outside of CNS was found mainly in the early periods of infection. Amoeba isolated from different organs of dead animals did not exhibit any specificity in relation to the organs in following infections. Infection with both low-and high-virulent strains resulted in pathomorphological changes of similar character. However, changes induced by low-virulent parasites developed later and were less extensive.
