The article presents the methodical assumptions and the results of assessment of the values of selected roadside avenues in the Dubeninki district (Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship). It is assumed that the attractiveness of avenues is related to their setting in the landscape (the value in this case is that it is seen from the road); the visual perception (the value being in the view of the avenue from the outside) and the character of the interior, i.e. the quality of the avenue itself. The criteria for the assessment of the attractiveness of the landscape seen from the road were: the range of visibility and the type and number of items making up the landscape. In assessing the attractiveness of the avenues as elements of the landscape, the number of points and lines in the landscape from which avenues can be seen were taken into consideration, as well as the length of perceived fragments of the avenues (as a percentage). The assessment of the avenues from within is, in turn, based on such criteria as the state of the road surface and the condition of the trees in the avenue. Each of the above mentioned factors was assessed on a scale of 1 to 3. On the basis of partial evaluations a summary evaluation of the landscape was made for each avenue. The results of these assessments showed that most of the avenues that were evaluated had either high or medium values for the landscape, and that only two had a low value for adding to the attractiveness of the landscape. The results of these assessments can form the basis for establishing a course of necessary actions for the upkeep and preservation of the value of existing avenues for the landscape.
