In the present paper, the level of intra-population genetic diversity is described for 24 individuals belonging to the selected population of the Istebna region, in relation to the Polish Progeny Test. Using the RAPD-PCR technique, nineteen random primers were initially screened and seven, generating clear and polymorphic profiles, were selected. The intra-population genetic variation was low. The fact that the level of diversity did not exceed 0.041, showed a decrease of genetic variation of Istebna trees as compared to the genuine Norway spruce population from Central Europe. In the present study, the application of RAPD-PCR allowed the selection of a group of individuals characterized by a relatively higher level of genetic diversity.
