The conference on problems associated with the construction of the Świnna Poręba reservoir and dam - the largest Polish investment in water facility - was held in Mucharz on July 6. The stormy discussion was attended, amongst others, by the Members of Polish Sejm and Senat, representatives of the Local Authorities, and scientists. Government Representatives, Radosław Gawlik (Deputy Minister for Environmental Protection), and Jerzy Widzyk (Government Agent for Remedying Effects of Floods) answered questions. The author discusses some of the presentations contributed at the conference. The construction of the dam has dragged on for 14 years. At the present moment, the work progress reached a measly 25-30 per cent (it was discussed more in detail in Aura, No. 4, 1998).
