Children and teenagers constitute a separate market group, which is heterogeneous in terms of their behaviour, market attitudes and activity. This is the basis for distinguishing four market segments, different in terms of the demographic, economic and psychographic characteristics of young participants in the market.
In the age of market globalisation, characterised, among other things, by high intensity of competition among enterprises, it is increasingly important to have broadly understood knowledge about consumers, their needs, expectations, habits, aspirations and, above all, determinants of such behaviour. Food manufacturers, in order to survive on the increasingly competitive market of food products, have to monitor factors shaping consumer behaviour on the market, which are subject to constant changes, and to explore the determinants of changes. As part of the research a questionnaire survey was conducted on the population of 200 people – a group of German school pupils aged 12–16. The research procedure was a direct questionnaire survey. The spatial extent of the questionnaire survey was the area of Brandenburg. The substantive scope of the questionnaire survey included issues related with the process of taking decisions by consumers about purchase of particular food products and factors affecting such decisions.
Promotion and its various tools play a special role in marketing communication of enterprises with the child and teenage market. Young consumers perceive promotion first of all as actions, which bring them notable benefits in the form of the possible purchase of products at reduced prices or an opportunity to obtain free samples of goods or freebies.
In the article the results of a research carried out in 2005 on the sample of 134 respondents are presented. The results of the research indicate that young consumers are very active on the food market. Teenagers derive their knowledge about nutrition mainly from their family home but also from school as well as from books and literature publications. Together with age the range of participation of grammar school teenagers in family shopping has declined, while their role and activeness of individual purchaser has risen. Families were commonly shopping mainly in small near-home shops and also, but less frequently, in hyper- and supermarkets. Teenagers were shopping individually mainly in small near home shops and school shops spending on average 9 PLN per week. While choosing the shopping place grammar school teenagers took under consideration mainly the price level and the quality of goods offered. The most important factors taken into consideration by the tested teenagers while buying food individually were: the freshness, the taste and the brand. Teenagers were engaged in decisive process of purchasing food for the family household mainly as far as products which were meant for them as consumers. Products such as beverages, chips, sweets and ice-creams were the main items of their individual purchase. Basing on the results of the survey a rather positive attitude of the tested teenagers was noticed towards promotion of sales. They were also more prone to impulsive purchase and more than averagely prone to novelties
Subject and purpose of work: The reason for choosing the subject and undertaking the studies were information gaps regarding the behaviour of young consumers in the area of activities related to enviroment. Materials and methods: The study employed purposeful sampling with regards to the participants’ field of study (programmes with environmental education content) and the year of education, as well as stratified sampling according to the structure of the population and its division into groups based on specified features. The technique of auditorium questionnaire was used. Results: The analysis showed that the students are characterised by a high level of ecological awareness and a sense of responsibility for it, and that is they are informed and pragmatic consumers. As involved and ecological consumers, they behave in a pro-ecological way and create desirable patterns of consumer behaviour. Conclusions: It was found that the students have a sense of responsibility for the surrounding environment. Convinced about their individual influence, they create desirable patterns of proecological behaviour.
Nutrition is one of the key factors influencing human health. Consuming foods that either naturally contain or have been enriched with bioactive substances may aid the organism’s proper development and functioning and, most importantly, be a vital element in the prophylaxis of many non-communicable diseases as well as improve general sense of well-being. The aim of the study was to compare behaviours related to functional foods among a selected group of young people. The survey was conducted among 153 purposively selected young consumers from Poland and Germany in March/April 2015. An original survey questionnaire was employed. IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 23 software was used for statistical analysis (chi-squared test p < 0.05). The term “functional foods” was largely unknown among the respondents. A defi nite majority of the survey participants reported having bought and consumed products that, in fact, belong to this group of foods. The main source of information on the topic of functional foods was the Internet. While buying these products, respondents from both countries chiefly took into account the price, the quality and the list of ingredients. The results point to the need to popularize information about functional foods using trustworthy sources, in order to foster nutritional awareness. Consumer knowledge is the basis for the positive perception and acceptance of health-promoting foods and for making rational dietary choices.
