System changes in Poland deal with the material base developed by socialist economy and for that reason the adaptation of former market infrastructure to new demands is strongly limited. This refers not only to reforming of farm co-operatives nationalized in the Polish People's Republic which bad a very strong position in rural production service, in agricultural circulation, trade and services. Similar problemsas in the case of co-operatives - also occurred in the case of state market infrastructure enterprises. Those market infrastructure establishments and posts that were created on new principles or privatized are best adapted to new demands. The development of market infrastructure is burdened in particular by insufficient number of merchandise exchanges and warehouses. Economic counsel in rural areas is also inadequate. Equally large problems of similar nature as in the field of purchase are encountered in agricultural procurement and processing. In recent years the greatest positive changes in rural areas took place in trade and services. This means that the processes of system transformation are uneven in different market segments and in addition strong spatial differences in the arrangement of socio-economic macroregions can be observed. In spite of diverse tendencies, the building of market infrastructure in 1992-1996 on new principles was mostly accepted by the countryside. This was possible, among other reasons, because of the favourable state economic policy in this period.
