EZ-Fluo™ System from Merck Millipore significantly reduces the time of determi nation of microbial contamination of juices and beverages compared to standard membrane filtration method. The time of yeasts incubation was shortened from 120 to 30–40 hours, depending on the tested species. Lactic acid bacteria were enumerated by EZ-Fluo™ System after 24–28 hours, depending on the species, while the standard incubation takes 72 hours. The time required to enumeration of Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris count was 16 hours, and Alicyclobacillus acidocaldarius 40 hours, instead of 120 hours necessary in the standard method. Analysis of naturally contaminated samples requires a slightly longer incubation time than that determined for the tested strains.
